CULLUM

CULO

Pure fuggin’ godhead hardcore punk rock! No metal, no pop, just straight-up hardcore punk. Four anthems of checking out of society and not giving a fuck who cares. This stuff sounds legit and not some part time pose. Fast, pissed, and catchier than hell. “Shootin Glue” will burrow its way into your mind, and the title track is the sonic bull in a china shop. Instruments are beat to hell. I image a couples nodes are going to develop on the singer’s vocal chords, but what a great record. Looking forward to their split with Raw Nerves

Curio

CURIO

Curio is a hell-raisin’ and soul-shakin’ rock n’ roll band from Chicago, IL. Their music is steeped in southern gothic lore by way of the Midwest. Heavily influenced by the growl of Chicago blues, the low-down and dirty swamp rock of Louisiana and the twang of Tennessee country, Curio conjures a sound that has as many influences as there are miles on I-55 from The Windy City to The Big Easy. Chris Pluska and his band of wayward gamblers have been playing to crowds at juke joints, dives and clubs since 2009. Curio’s live show has the fervent energy of a backwoods revival and the no-holds-barred attitude of a bar brawl. Their records are love letters to the bastards, brawlers, vagabonds, and believers who’ve shaped American folklore for better or for worse. Curio’s tales have been described as ‘Midwest murder ballads’ that depict the timeless narrative of wrong-doing and temptation.

CYANOTIC

Chicago-based Cyanotic, part band, part machine, has been producing a hybrid of heavily metalized electro-industrial jams, cheekily referred to as “angry robot music”, since forming in 2002, a redigitized representation of Chicago’s lineage of dark counterculture. Equal parts danceable chaos and synthetic precision, Cyanotic has been crossing boundaries and touring heavily with the likes of Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Dillinger Escape Plan and many more while building a strong core fanbase across the US + Europe

D.I.

Coming out of the streets of Fullerton California, DI was formed in the shadows of The Adolescents back in 1983 in a studio behind a pawn shop. The Adolescents, Social Distortion, Agent Orange and several other local early punk rock pioneers were the breeding ground from which DI was born. DI branded their own form of punk rock that complemented the Orange County Punk scene in sound and attitude. DI was thrown to the forefront after the band performed “Richard Hung Himself” with the original line up that recorded the bands first EP in the 1984 movie, “Suburbia”, directed by Penelope Spheeris who’s previous production was “Decline of Western Civilization.” When the band went through a line up change after the first EP titled Team Goon, members of emerging Fullerton band Almost 21 became the backbone for the sound that DI is known for today. During that line up change, front man Casey Royer known for his cutting and outrageous social commentary through humor is joined by Rikk Agnew of The Adolescents on guitar. Rikk brought to DI a handful of songs written in previous years, such as “Falling Out” and “OC Life” which were featured on Rikk Agnew’s solo album, “All By Myself” and were made wildly popular though Casey Royer’s style and personality.

CRAWL

CRAWL was born out of a set break at a Chicago jazz venue, when the three musicians backing a great local jazz vocalist decided that they really enjoyed each other’s unique approach, and wanted to advance that into a setting that actually highlighted each of their unique playing abilities to create an original, instrumental project. Of course, as any musician knows, talk like this is always present on gigs – its usually a great way to seal the deal on a networking opportunity in order to make sure the calls keep coming. Well, this one only took a year of talk before it was put into action.

Three powerhouse Chicago musicians adding yet another project to their roster seemed a daunting task, but as the planets aligned in some supportive fashion, a rehearsal, and then another took place. After only a few rehearsals a show was booked and CRAWL was presented to the public. The response was overwhelming, including high kudos from some of Chicago’s most prominent fusion players, as well as bartenders and non-musicians. Even the soundman loved it! So now the band is real and ready to share their music with the rest of the world.

CRAWL is comprised of composer, and keyboardist extraordinaire Paul Mutzabaugh playing exclusively Wurlitzer in this band, bassist and composer Chris Clemente, and drummer/percussionist Rich Stitzel. Three totally different backgrounds, one ridiculous sounding instrumental trio. This band has super high energy, very deep grooves, and incredible polyrhythmic interaction in an improvisational approach to original, structured compositions.

CRUEL HAND

Spawned in the lethargic backwoods of the pine tree state, Portland, Maine’s Cruel Hand play an eclectic blend of styles that embodies anything but the serenity of their surroundings. Formed in 2006, Cruel Hand’s sound is equal parts New York hardcore and west coast thrash, all with a twist of their own. With five years of heavy touring and three LPs under their belt, the new decade will see Cruel Hand continue to mature and live up to their hard earned road reputation. Their latest release, 2010’s “Lock and Key”, was their most refined to date and a sure sign that the 5-piece is only continuing to rise. With a freshly solidified lineup and undisputable live show, expect to see them in your corner of the world soon.
