H.R. (HUMAN RIGHTS)
Paul “HR” Hudson is best known as the front man of the iconic punk band Bad Brains, formed in 1979. With unprecedented speed and precision, Bad Brains took the Washington, DC music scene by storm and quickly became the most influential band in American punk history, breaking down cultural barriers and creating emotionally charged music centered on the message of maintaining a positive mental attitude (PMA). This concept of PMA continues to inspire HR’s fans.Early in his career, HR became interested in reggae and the Rastafarian movement. These pursuits transformed him, and he began to focus more on the spiritual nature of reggae rather than the fast lifestyle of the punk scene. In 1984, HR formed his reggae-rock band Human Rights, which has performed and recorded in various incarnations for more than three decades.Currently, HR performs with Philadelphia musicians Ezekiel Zagar (original McRad), Josh Freshy, and Wesley Rast as HR & Human Rights: The New Gospel. The band has a refined yet organic energy that hasn’t been felt since the early days of Human Rights. In addition to working on a new solo album with Human Rights, HR has recently been in the studio with Ty Dolla $ign and Vic Mensa, once again making music history.
H2O
Formed in 1994 by Sick of It All roadie Toby Morse, H2O was one of the more prominent bands in the second wave of straight-edge hardcore. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the band toured relentlessly, becoming synonymous with the East Coast hardcore sound that encapsulated the gritty attitude of New York City in melodic riffs, principled lyrics, and rushing tempos. The band had a brief dalliance with major label MCA, releasing 2001’s Go and 2002’s All We Want EP with the major before returning to their indie roots with 2008’s Nothing to Prove.
New York City hardcore band H2O began as a group of friends headed by Sick of It All roadie Toby Morse, who would perform a song called “My Love Is Real” at shows where there was no opening act. Crowd response encouraged the band to give music a serious try, and their initial membership featured Morse (vocals), Rusty Pistachio (guitar), Eric Rice (bass), and Max Capshaw (drums). H2O’s ceaseless touring quickly earned them a following along the East Coast, their fan base growing as the band opened bigger shows early in their career for acts like Rancid and No Doubt. After a European tour in 1995, Capshaw left the band, and ex-Outcrowd members Todd Morse (guitar; Toby’s brother) and Todd Friend (drums) joined. H2O opened for such bands as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Quicksand and CIV, and their self-titled debut was released in 1996. Their second album, Thicker Than Water, was issued by Epitaph in 1997; it featured new bassist Adam Blake (ex-Shelter). F.T.T.W., the band’s third album, was released in 1999. Two years later, the band signed to MCA and issued Go!, followed closely by the All We Want EP, which appeared in fall 2002. Around this time the band also turned some heads with their cover of Ice Cube’s ubiquitous hit “It Was a Good Day.” Throughout the band’s tenure, touring and connecting with fans through live performance was one of the constants of their appeal. H2O’s iconic status in hardcore circles was owed largely to their willingness to bring their show to the fans, and they were early participants in different package tours like Warped Tour. They toured nonstop during their brief involvement with MCA, but didn’t release new music until 2008’s Nothing to Prove, which was put out by indie label Bridge 9 Records.
Released in 2011, the aptly named Don’t Forget Your Roots saw H2O covering some of the bands that influenced them over the years, while 2015’s Use Your Voice found them celebrating their 20th anniversary with an all new set of originals. Following the album’s release, more touring ensued, with Todd Morse leaving the band for a time but ultimately returning. Around 2017, an announcement was made that Use Your Voice would be the final studio album from H2O, but in what capacity the band would exist from that point on was unclear. Later that year, the band’s first demos from 1994 were widely released on Bridge 9 Records. The six songs had previously only been available as a self-released demo cassette in the band’s early days and on a two-song EP, but were remastered and released as The Don Fury Demo Session. Fury, still active in recording 20 some years later, remastered the archival demos himself. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi

Tired of not being able to go anywhere in the Chicago area to enjoy The beautiful sounds of The Smiths and Morrissey, vocalist, Joseph De La Mora and his band Terraforma decided to give it a shot in 2008. Originally just for an ICON show with other bands paying tribute to the likes of DM, the Cure and Joy Division. The Chance to emulate the Smiths and Moz was just too addictive and honorable to only do just once. Thus The Handsome Devilz were born. To bring to life the Live sound that was once the Smiths and still is Morrissey. Striving as time passes to Resurrect as many songs as possible from the Catalog of The Smiths and Moz. For all to Enjoy.

HARM’S WAY
Harm’s Way are an absolute force of a band from Chicago, Illinois. They made a name for themselves with masterful releases on the Organized Crime and Closed Casket Activities labels. With their punishing “Isolation” album (Closed Casket, 2011), Harm’s Way brutally melded a metal attack, hardcore aggression, and industrial repetition into a new kind of sound. Creating a balance of intensity and originality rare in today’s world of music.
HATCHET
Growing up in the San Francisco area suburbs as young metal heads can make it quite likely to take influence from the pioneers of metal that spanned the area in the 1980’s. So it’s no surprise that Hatchet describes their sound as “Pure, Uncompromising, Bay Area Thrash Metal”.
Since hitting the Bay Area Metal scene in early 2007, Hatchet quickly made a name for itself. They worked hard to gig as often as they could and also not compete with, but group together bands of the like to help strengthen the scene. Focusing on playing with other young starting thrash bands in their area, the fan base grew. Eventually they reached out to the neighboring Los Angeles thrash scene which was also flourishing and invited various bands up to the bay area to diversify their shows, and spread overall thrash metal awareness.
After self-releasing two demos, the band’s debut album, “Awaiting Evil”, was released in mid-2008 via Metal Blade Records. The album was well-received by thrash enthusiasts around the globe and proved a great beginning for Hatchet. Since the release of the debut, the band has completed 3 full DIY U.S. tours that have helped put them on the map for up and coming thrash metal bands. Unfortunately in this time, the band also saw its share of lineup changes, which stalled overall progress of the group. Throughout the changes, founding member Julz Ramos always had the passion to keep the band going, even moving to take on vocal duties. Now in 2012, the band has never been stronger with its most dedicated, mature, and musically inclined members since its birth.
Their sophomore effort, “Dawn of the End”, released on their new label, The End Records, showcases a much more aggressive and professionally oriented band. The group has stated its hunger to hit the road and prove that thrash metal is still a force to be reckoned with.
