DJENTO ROCKHARD AND THE HOT CLUB OF HELL

Djento Rockhard and the Hot Club of Hell deliver reinterpretations of heavy metal classics in a gypsy jazz style

Hammerhedd

HAMMERHEDD

HAMMERHEDD is a band from Kansas City.
The three Ismert brothers who make up Hammerhedd have a natural gift and a greater calling. Perhaps the definition of les enfants terribles and drawing comparisons to contemporaries like Gojira, Meshuggah, and Mastodon, Hammerhedd blend genres into a perfect sludge of chugging, grinding, beating, and thrashingly heavy marches favoring driving rhythms with a tinge of melodic mischief. Their sound is the kind of organic, made-to-mosh barn burning bombast that gets the walking dead banging their heads.

I Am

I AM

Brandishing a unique blend of furious thrash and death metal like a weapon of mass destruction, I AM is purely no-nonsense in their patented “Texas Death” assault. Armed with riffs, speed, and overwhelming power, “I AM writes songs that make you want to move” (Decibel Magazine).
Across three full-length slabs of bludgeoning intensity and snarling rage, I AM put a Southern stamp and revitalized swagger into deathcore, a subgenre rarely as raw, energized, and diverse as this band. In the spirit of fellow Southern icons Pantera and newer Texan heroes Power Trip, I AM channels discontent and anger into empowering anthems, as likely to inspire a grueling workout as to incite the pit. Reminiscent of the combination of death metal heaviness and thrash metal speed found in the early catalog of Sepultura, I AM mines the heaviness of Morbid Angel and the dexterity of the Big 4 to create something groundbreaking of their own. Vocalist Andrew Hileman — who started the band in 2011– guitarists Tom Reyes and Chris Burgess, bassist Erik Rodriguez, and drummer Brandon Busa deliver their Texas Death in clubs, theaters, and festivals, with bands like The Acacia Strain and Kublai Khan.

SWMRS

SWMRS is the sound of brothers staying afloat, having fun, and learning to move with the currents. The Bay Area punk band is centered around the songwriting of brothers Max and Cole Becker, who have fronted the band through many evolutions since forming the group as Emily’s Army in 2004. As SWMRS they’ve released two albums, including 2016’s Drive Northand 2019’s Berkeley’s on Fire, and honed their stagecraft opening for Muse, Blink-182, Cage the Elephant, and Fidlar. After a series of challenges over the past few years, including Max nearly dying in a car accident, the punk rock band has focused on writing new music and returning to the road. Their new single “Dye Your Hair,” recorded in Oakland harkens back to the sonic excitement of their first album and hints at what’s to come from the musicians.Wherever the next wave takes them, SWMRS will be ready with guitars in their hands and songs in their hearts.

Forged during the Covid pandemic, New Orleans death grind/hardcore group BRAT have come in swinging with blast beats, bass-laden breakdowns, and riffs inspired by OSDM and NYHC.

Through the melding of genres, the foursome stand out from the sludge that the Crescent City is known for. BRAT also brings a yassified look to the scene, shirking traditional metal imagery for femme pop icons and pink-pilled Y2K aesthetic.

Flying Raccoon Suit

FLYING RACCOON SUIT

Flying Raccoon Suit is a ska/punk band from Mississippi.

“You can probably safely call it a “ska-punk” album, but outside of one or two songs, Afterglow doesn’t sound like ’90s ska-punk. Throughout the album, they experiment with lumbering metal riffs, throat-shredding hardcore, DIY indie rock, surf rock, explorative jazz, upbeat Klezmer, and more, and Flying Raccoon Suit have a firm grip on all of these styles of music. It never sounds like they’re biting off more than they can chew, and it comes together a lot more seamlessly than you might expect. You can hear all of these different sounds when you dissect it, but when you just sit back and listen, it’s just an enjoyable rock record with big hooks and a ton of energy. If you don’t think you like ska, Afterglow probably has a song or two that will prove you wrong.” – Brooklyn Vegan

Hi ! My names Josephine and I’m a musician from Chicago, originally St. Paul Minnesota, but for the past 5 years I’ve been establishing myself and music in the wonderful Windy City. I’ve put out a few songs under Joz which was a past version of my music. Going by my full name “Josephine” has felt much more fitting to the new music I’ve been creating. I’d say the style of my sound is indie revival/alternative rock in space.

12th House Sun

12TH HOUSE SUN

Emo Shoegaze from Minneapolis, MN 🙂 12th House Sun started as Kyle Schultz’s solo project in 2019. He recorded and released his debut EP “12th House Sun” in 2020, followed by a second EP titled “444” in 2021. The music pairs ambience with emo chord progressions, while the lyrics dive into themes of self reflection, heartbreak, and loss. After the isolation of the covid-19 pandemic, 12th House Sun sought to bring these songs to a live setting. Members Nick Luke (drums), Alice Grooms (bass), and Logan Stromberg (guitar) joined the band in 2022. The group has gained more exposure by playing shows around the Twin Cities, and have plans to release their first album in 2023.

Psylo

PSYLO

Painting With The Sun is our debut EP; this record is the first collection of songs we’ve ever put out as an outfit. These tracks were written between Summer 2021 into the end of winter 2022 when they were promptly recorded late at night at the historic Powerstation in NYC. Busied by life and the writing of new shit, we truly took our time with this record. It was a learning process in its entirety. One of our closest friends and collaborators Andy Hallock tirelessly produced, mixed and mastered this project through the power of patience and wizardry, and let it be known, from Boston via remote session software. No amount of words can accurately describe the making of this album, but we believe a singular onomatopoeia can: !

Petite League

PETITE LEAGUE

Living together in famed Syracuse house venue Scarier Dome hosting shows for touring bands, producing live video sessions, starting a screen printing business while also learning the ins-and-outs of self-recording and releasing records was the foundational stepping stone upon which Petite League was created.

Lorenzo Gillis Cook, songwriter and composer, along with drummer Henry Schoonmaker, came out of the gates swinging with their signature infectious lo-fi power pop releasing their two first records before graduating from college that same year. Petite League’s melodic sun kissed brand of indie rock started the buzz right away with some immediate industry, streaming, and publication recognition which helped propel the band forward from the jump.

The band continued to shape itself into a staple of the New York indie rock scene as the band moved to Queens in 2016 enlisting the help of other ex-Scarier Dome residents Adam Greenberg and Kevin McCallum as part of the live band. The DIY mindset of operating Scarier Dome is still the backbone of what Petite League runs on to this day as they continue to release music prolifically, cultivate their online presence, and tour throughout the United States.

Dreamer Isioma

DREAMER ISIOMA

Dreamer Isioma (they/he) their debut album, Goodnight Dreamer, arriving February 23. The out-of-this-world project from the Chicago-based Nigerian American artist centers on Dreamer, a stylish character who embarks on a multi-dimensional expedition through time and space to solve the questions they have about their existence. A kaleidoscopic journey of popular music history, the album sees Isioma exploring a multitude of genres from Afrobeats (a nod to their heritage and the fact that the earliest humans originated on the African continent), to 1950s rock ‘n’ roll, ‘70s funk and R&B, and eventually, modern pop and electronic music. Through this story, the 21-year-old lays out his own personal misadventures in love, self-identity, and achieving their dreams—unafraid to sing frankly about their uncertainty and mental health, while still boldly claiming their self-worth. Possessing cool confidence and the sensitivity of a heartthrob, Isioma offers a new archetype of relatable stardom and paints his own vision of
the genreless future.

Isioma started conceptualizing Goodnight Dreamer in 2020, around the time he released his breakthrough debut EP, Sensitive, whose groovy and audacious title track later went viral onTikTok. The track has since clocked over 80 million streams, landed Dreamer on Rolling Stone’sBreakthrough 25 Chart ranked at #6, and hit #1 on Shazam’s Predictions 2021 Chart. Single, broke, and overwhelmed from navigating early internet fame, he imagined himself traveling to other dimensions. Throughout the rest of the year, even while promoting their second EP, The Leo Sun Sets, they fueled their curiosities by researching outer space, time dimensions, the ocean, and existential philosophies.

These ruminations are the backdrop to the narrative of Goodnight Dreamer, which opens with “StayUp!” a psychedelic Afrobeats song that sees Isioma urging someone to manifest their dreams in their waking life. The explosive track “Sunset Drive” captures Isioma’s exceptional tenacity and celebrates their newfound sense of self. By the time the project gets to the dreamy pop-R&B closing title track, Isioma ends with the message that it’s now safe to fall into slumber, which he describes as a metaphor for being reborn, because the journey is complete.Goodnight Dreamer indicates growth for Isioma, who recently publicly announced that they are taking on the name of the Dreamer character for themself. “I’m becoming who I want to be,” they explain. The conceptually expansive project is an audacious step toward Isioma’s broader
goal to “be someone who shifts culture—whether that be the culture of me being Nigerian, or the culture of me being queer, or the culture of me being Black in America,” as he puts it. It’s clear that Isioma is already on the way to achieving this mission, since Goodnight Dreamer tells the tale of them actively turning their dreams into reality.

The young phenomenon has solidified himself as one of today’s most exciting artists through their meteoric rise. Isioma has amassed 100 million career streams across catalog and become a bonafide critical press darling, lauded by Rolling Stone, Complex, Billboard, Pigeons and Planes, Nylon, them., Wonderland and many others. Additionally, Isioma recently wrapped their debut headlining US tour including explosive performances at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and others.

During the break of live music Greenlights went on to complete 3 full length projects that all held significant time in the top ten NACC Hip Hop Charts (Art of Poise chiming in at #27 nationally for the year). Both projects were given high praise from DJ’s all around the country and given a generous amount of rotation from some highly notable independent and college radio stations. Including Chicago based Chirp Radio. “Space Craft” and “The Art of Poise” were also given respect from the Chicago underground scene, declaring Greenlights Music a sort of 1990’s “Native Tongues” feel. Mulva

MULVA

A Milwaukee person and a Chicago person meet in a bar. Next thing you know, they are making love. After endless hours of passion, they started making music.

Definitely Maybe

DEFINITELY MAYBE

Definitely Maybe is what you get when a state champion drum major (Sawyer, bass/production), a jazz and blues guitar player (Ian, guitar), and a 2000s-emo shower singer (Courtney, lead vocalist and writer) get together and make music. With a refreshing take on Pop Punk / Rock anthems, Courtney pulls raw and relatable words from broken friendships, hypocrisy she experienced growing up in the church, and her battles with mental health, including losing her sister to suicide in 2020. The catchy hooks and gritty guitar tones contrast the thoughtful themes inside each song, and the storytelling provides a vivid picture for the listeners to get lost in.

As a young band out of Chicago, only one year old, they just released their debut EP “Better Off Undone” streaming everywhere. The tracklist includes nostalgic and dark emo revival “One Thing,” moody and driving “Same Old Same,” a bop-your-head summer love song called “You + Me,” and a classic pop punk breakup anthem, “Silly Song.”

Definitely Maybe is only just getting started.

Suitable Miss

SUITABLE MISS

Suitable Miss is a band from Colorado serving up an energetic and eclectic blend of nostalgic pop-punk songwriting, blistering metalcore intensity and radio pop sensibility. Like a “coming-of-age” movie about trying to find your place in the world, their music is introspective, emotionally vulnerable, and full of energy.

Initially formed in Denver in late 2019, the band saw much of their early development during the initial COVID-19 lockdown. After releasing their debut EP “Don’t Look Back” in early 2021, the return of live music that summer skyrocketed the band to new heights with a sold out headline show and multiple regional performances.

The band followed up their debut EP with the release of their of their first full length album “In Color” in May 2022. Extensive touring from coast to coast throughout 2022 and 2023 gained the band significant traction and massive opportunities. Opportunities like joining A Day to Remember, Jimmy Eat World, The Maine and more at KTCL 93.3’s Big Gig, hitting the road with Equal Vision Records artist, Calling All Captains, and providing local support for notable acts like From Ashes to New, Broadside, Driveways, and Young Culture.

Good Hangs is a love letter to kids who came up in the local scene and now slog through mid-level management. The raw but earnest vocal harmonies, catchy guitar riffs, and poignant lyrics amp up the nostalgia for life as a millennial before society’s descent into dystopia. Because even when everything else is sh*t, you and your best friends can still crack open some PBRs, crank up the volume, and sing at the top of your lungs.
When there’s nothing to look forward to, look back. There’s no hope, just good hangs.

Spells

SPELLS

SPELLS is a five-piece rock juggernaut hailing from Denver, CO. Founded in 2013, they are vacation rock to be exact. They produce short blasts of intense melody and driving rhythms that are custom-made to entertain the band members themselves and serve as an excuse to go play shows in cities that have beaches or buddies nearby. If your city’s best offers include said beach and a good breakfast joint, count them in. If the best your city can do is a punk house that smells like cat shit and a Subway restaurant inside a gas station, they will pass.

Over the past 9+ years, SPELLS has released two full-length records (STAYING IN > GOING OUT in 2016 + STIMULANTS & SEDATIVES in 2020) and one full-length collection record featuring early 7″s, cassettes, compilation tracks and digital charity tracks (LOOSE CHANGE, VOL. 1 in 2018). They also have several other 7″s, cassettes, etc; some of which are slated for the forthcoming ‘LOOSE CHANGE, VOL. 2’.

ULTRABOMB

UltraBomb, the eagerly anticipated international supergroup, have now arrived bringing together three iconic musicians from the cream of punk rock. On bass is the legend that is Greg Norton, once the driving force behind one of the most influential bands to emerge from the American punk scene, Hüsker Dü. Next up is the indefatigable singer-guitarist Finny McConnell, a name you’ll recognize from thirty years as the frontman of the Canadian Irish folk-punk sensation The Mahones. Completing the trio is the drumming powerhouse Jamie Oliver, having served well over fifteen years in the seminal British punk band UK Subs, as well as shorter stints with the likes of SNFU among others.

UltraBomb formed in July 2021, and just two months later they traveled from their respective homes in the US, Canada and the UK to record their killer debut album ‘Time To Burn’ in Berlin, Germany. With a DIY ethic and a love of classic punk, the band wrote and recorded the ten-track LP in just four days. UltraBomb’s debut single ‘Stickman Vs. Hangman’ dropped in February 2022 to a crescendo of critical acclaim, and now the band are ready to follow it up with second single ‘Star’, a rousing, emotive song written for Greg Norton’s daughter, Coco.

“I dedicate this to my daughter, Coco,” explains Greg. “She inspires me every day. I wrote this for her. I want her to follow her dreams, and I feel she can accomplish anything if she is committed to it and puts her heart into it.”

Theo Croker

THEO CROKER

Theo Croker is a storyteller who speaks through his trumpet. A creative who refuses boundaries, the GRAMMY®️-nominated artist, composer, producer, influencer and thought leader projects his singular voice through music. Croker first debuted his simmering original sound in 2014 on the Dee Dee Bridgewater-assisted AfroPhysicist, returning two years later with 2016’s follow-up Escape Velocity, lauded by the Wall Street Journal as “timeless and of-the-moment.” He once again reached new heights with 2019’s Star People Nation, attracting widespread critical acclaim and garnering his first-ever GRAMMY® nomination for “Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.” In addition to his music being featured in television shows (HBO’s Insecure) and films (The Photograph), Croker has also lent his talents to platinum-selling albums by J. Cole, Ari Lennox, Common and more, all while touring with his band at venues across the globe. The year 2020 returned Croker to his childhood home in Florida, where he wrote and recorded his sixth full-length album BLK2LIFE || A FUTURE PAST, a star-studded effort featuring contributions from Wyclef Jean, Ari Lennox, Gary Bartz, Charlotte Dos Santos, Iman Omari, Malaya, and Kassa Overall. Lauded as a “smoldering neo-jazz collection” by The New York Times and “a vital experience” by CLASH, the album yet again propelled Croker to new heights, including his late-night television debut with a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert alongside Wyclef Jean. Croker now starts yet another chapter in his constant evolution as an artist with his seventh studio album.

Iron Years

IRON YEARS

Electronic drums and pads lay the foundation while hard Post Punk basslines lead the way. Dreamy shoegaze guitars put you in a trance with their melody and pair with Synth arrangements and keyboards reminiscent of old Italo records. Iron years will pull you into their world and play in the background of your deepest desires while making you want to dance. You will want to daydream together.

Do what you want. We’ll stay here.

TV Moms

TV MOMS

TV Moms is a loud, grungy, guitar-drums, gutter rocknroll band. Ok, not all the songs are loud. There’s some singing in there, but not vocal gymnastics. Bummer rock is a thing? But a little more sarcastic. Riff-based guitar stuff that is really fun to play, even if you don’t play guitar that much. And Dave plays drums. He broke a stick a couple times.

The Velveteers

THE VELVETEERS

Growing up in Boulder, Demi Demitro rebelled through her guitar, practicing up to nine hours a day and neglecting schoolwork to develop a playing style that is heavy but agile, theatrical but nuanced, grounded in rock history but wholly idiosyncratic. With Baby Pottersmith and Jonny Fig playing on a conjoined set, the band developed a reputation for their rip-roaring performances. Clips of the band’s live shows and DIY videos made it back to Dan Auerbach, who invited them to his studio in Nashville to produce Nightmare Daydream, dropping October 8th on Easy Eye Sound. “I instantly dug them,” says Auerbach. “Any time you doubletrack drums on a record, it’s going to sound so heavy. Together with this baritone guitar player who is so bombastic. There’s nothing like them.”

THE BLUE STONES

From Windsor, Ontario, Canada; the duo is built on an electrifying blues-rock sound with alternative rock accents. They have been praised for their big and bold live performances, and have been featured on TV shows such as Suits, Parks and Rec, Battle Creek and Monday Night Football. They’ve opened for acts such as Justin Nozuka, Fitz and The Tantrums, Big Sugar and more.

George Shingleton

GEORGE SHINGLETON

Generations of Shingleton men have played an amalgam of bluegrass and the Appalachian “hill country” music familiar in their area of rural West Virginia, but George Shingleton was the first to make the move from the local church choir to Nashville.

“We were all taught that blood was basically your savior and your lifeline, and how close we needed to be to one another,” Shingleton says. “We didn’t grow up with money at all, but the ‘family-ness’ was very, very rich in our household, and I could never have asked for anything better.”

Despite a childhood spent with music at the forefront, Shingleton didn’t seriously begin writing songs until he was an adult. A number of years into making music his full-time job, it’s still Shingleton’s family, as well as his friends and fans, who drive him to go after this dream.

“I know that I couldn’t keep doing what I’m doing without the support from people who really care about the music that I’m putting out,” says Shingleton. His wife, Emily, saw his potential and was the person who initially encouraged him to pursue this career, and his fans are the reason he keeps pursuing it. “I’ve been doin’ this a long time,” Shingleton adds. “The reason I know I can do it is because of them.”

All that support certainly isn’t misplaced. Shingleton’s second full-length album, 2020’s Out All Nighter, proved him “a skilled song craftsman and a talented vocalist… straddling the line between outlaw country and southern rock in his own original style” (Glide Magazine). His Shot or Two EP, released in January 2023, paired him once again with dear friend Dave Pahanish — who has co-written #1 singles for Toby Keith, Keith Urban, and Jimmy Wayne — as his producer, and Shingleton is working on more new material, to be released later this year.

Among those new songs are “Beer Drinkin’ Women,” co-written with Justin Wilson, a “let-your-hair-down, have-a-good-time” track — a rarity for Shingleton, the artist admits — and “I Can’t Let You Go,” a brokenhearted ballad with a darker, more rock-leaning edge. Neither, however, is completely out of left field for Shingleton, who as a teenager fell in love with the outlaw country and southern rock sounds of the Allman Brothers Band, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr.

“I don’t feel like I’m straying away from any of my roots, but I feel like these new songs are a little more accessible,” says Shingleton, whose music toes the blurry lines between Americana, country, blues, southern rock, and gospel. The man with the “rich baritone full of love and comfort” (Americana Highways) remains committed to maintaining authenticity and integrity within his stories and sound — a move that has, throughout his career, garnered him the respect of artists such as Bucky Covington, Charlie Daniels, John Michael Montgomery, Darryl Worley, and others who have invited Shingleton to share the stage.

In addition to earning spots on a variety of digital music playlists — Apple Music’s “Country Roads,” “Back Porch Country,” “New in Country,” and “Country Lovin’”; Spotify’s “New Music Nashville”; and Amazon Music’s “Fresh Folk & Americana” — Shingleton’s songs have found their way onto television. His 2021 single “West Virginia Moon” was used in the fly-fishing show “Fly Rod Chronicles,” and another of his songs, “Restless Ways,” was featured in an episode of the hit TV series “Yellowstone.”

Prior to the pandemic, Shingleton began livestreaming regularly on Facebook, and fans eager to see him perform can catch him monthly on his Facebook page for his “Tuesday Night Tunes” series, which more than 1.4 million viewers have tuned in to watch. In 2023, though, Shingleton is eager to be out on the road more often, after years as a “weekend warrior.”

“I just want to be playing my music for people,” he asserts. “I want to make music that people can connect to in times of both celebration and sadness. Music brings us together in such a universal way.”

RICHARD & LINDA THOMPSON “SHOOT OUT THE LIGHTS”

Shoot Out the Lights is the sixth and final album by British husband-and-wife rock duo Richard and Linda Thompson. It was produced by Joe Boyd and released in 1982 on his Hannibal label. A critically acclaimed work, AllMusic’s Mark Deming noted that Shoot Out the Lights has “often been cited as Richard Thompson’s greatest work, and it’s difficult for anyone who has heard his body of work to argue the point.
