Psychedelic soul quintet and assault from all sides, Woo Park, has been unleashing an aural assault upon audiences since the year twenty-thirteen. A fiery rhythm section with near clairvoyant rhythmic flexibility consists of polyrhythmic champion, Luke Swaggermans, and self-proclaimed bass god, Parker Grogan. The undeniable groove exists in tandem with a lush atmosphere of ethereal soundscapes fit for even the most heady of new age souls to bask in; Christian Zwit, aural chemist and knob tinkerer, wields keyboard and synth alike while Brian Sanborn’s playing transcends guitar with his singing melodies and cloud-like chordal textures. Emily Nichols’s alluring voice floats effortlessly atop of the controlled chaos and forms a cohesive narrative. The music ebbs, flows, and bends to their will with each instrument’s role extending beyond tradition. In performance, each member constantly engages in improvisational soul-searching within the confines of their elaborately crafted compositions. Their EP, “Smokes”, is their formal musical introduction.
