“Dedicated to bridging the gap between hip-hop and jazz…”
– Jim DeRogatis (Chicago Sun-Times)
In summer ’06, the inception of VertiKal gave birth to music that is original and exciting. Drawing from Chicago’s diverse fan-base, VertiKal uses it’s range of musical influence to connect with funk enthusiasts, hip-hop fanatics, and folks with a jazz sensibility.
VertiKal has held a residency at the Underground Wonder Bar and the Morseland Café. They have performed for capacity crowds at some of the most esteemed venues in Chicago, such as the Double Door, Metro, Schubas, Lincoln Hall, and drew 200+ people to their debut CD-release party at Martyrs’. In 2007, VertiKal was voted “audience favorite” at the Emergenza national, with Lorin Cohen earning a “best bass player” nod. In 2011, their dynamic MC, Illegit was nominated for “Best New Entertainer” by the Chicago Music Awards.
