Time was, artists didn’t simply record songs, they crafted audio experiences that began when the needle found the groove on Side 1 and led listeners on an emotional and spiritual journey that carried them through to the end of Side 2. The history of rock ‘n’ roll is rife with tales of musicians who labored months in the studio to find just the right drum sound, just the right guitar setting, just the right groove. But who can deny that when the pieces were put together perfectly, the results were magnificent!
Great Moments in Vinyl expands on the tribute band concept by weaving the stories and images accompanying the music into their set. In their Martyr’s debut, Great Moments in Vinyl honors two legendary albums in the career of Bruce Springsteen. His second release, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, followed hard on the heels of his major label debut and gave him the chance to prove he was more than just the new Dylan. By album number three, though, his record company was ready to sever their relationship if he didn’t find an audience for his music. In a desperate bid to save his career, Springsteen went back into the studio and produced the masterpiece that made him a legend, Born to Run.
Comprised of veterans from the Chicago music scene, Great Moments in Vinyl regularly celebrates the albums of their musical heroes.
