FORQ

Forq is an instrumental quartet with an aggressive sound and a penchant for sonic exploration. This all-star band based in New York has just completed their third album – Thrēq – released on August 4, 2017. Originally founded by keyboardist Henry Hey (David Bowie, Empire of the Sun, Jeff “Tain” Watts) and bassist Michael League (Grammy-winning founder of Snarky Puppy), Forq is joined by guitarist Chris McQueen (Snarky Puppy, Foe Destroyer, Bokanté) and drummer Jason “JT” Thomas (Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor, Marcus Miller, D’Angelo). Their group sound draws from various musical paths of it’s members. Henry Hey is the keyboardist and co-leader of groundbreaking instrumental quartet, Rudder, and some of that sound can be heard in the music of Forq.  Drummer Jason Thomas has a musical history rich in authentic Texas blues and swampy funk. Guitarist Chris McQueen brings his singular sonic approach coupled with highly melodic soloing. Joining Forq on this tour is bassist Kevin Scott whose incredible low end groove can be heard with guitarist Wayne Krantz as well as with Atlanta music legend, Colonel Bruce Hampton.

KASHENA SAMPSON

Kashena Sampson ain’t the first unknown singer to move to Nashville with stars in her eyes, but music city’s most powerful new voice may be the first to have toured the world and partied like a rock star before doing so.

Though the Las Vegas native grew up singing three-part harmonies in a band with her sisters, Sampson found herself post-college living in Los Angeles, waiting tables, and doing the struggling actor thing. She also was doing a lot of drugs. “I kinda stopped doing music because I was doing nothing but drinking and doing drugs,” she laughs. “People didn’t know I was a singer.”

Now a shimmering enchantress of a performer, who effortlessly expands a 70’s rock aesthetic with an elegant wardrobe and lungs that could shake the walls of an opera house, it’s hard to believe Sampson was once a self-confessed “trainwreck,” who had lost sight of her musical roots.

It was only after belligerently getting thrown out of a party that her friends staged an intervention, setting her on the path to sobriety. After a little soul searching, it was also the path which led her back to music. “I was doing a lot of meditating, trying to figure out what I should be doing, and the answer was music,” she said. After a few years of focusing on paying the bills and staying sober, at a friend’s urging, Sampson began singing at an L.A. Irish bar’s open jam night. She chose songs from artists she admired, including Dolly Parton, Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt and others. “It was like a 70’s country music club,” she said.

Then, one day, she got an email informing her that the music director from a top Las Vegas show had seen her singing on Youtube, and wanted her for a gig on a high-end cruise ship. She got the gig without an audition. It was as if some of that Irish bar’s luck had rubbed off on her. “The day I left for rehearsals was the day the lease was up on my apartment,” she says. “I was supposed to be gone for seven months doing this cruise ship, and I ended up doing it for three years.” While traveling what she says was “the whole world,” Sampson performed everything from 60’s and 70’s folk and country, to The Beatles, to Motown, and even opera. But despite her diverse repertoire, she was often told that she would do well in Nashville. The plan all along was to make enough money working on the ships that she could record an album of her own songs, but the money didn’t last. After three years at sea, she decided to go home to Las Vegas, where she got a job bartending and singing at a downtown piano bar. Again, while singing there, people told her she oughta give Nashville a shot. It wasn’t long before luck found her again — this time, Lady Luck.

In a most “Las Vegas” scenario, she was contacted by a cast member of the musical Million Dollar Quartet, who invited her to sing lead vocals on a song written by Miss Nevada USA. The studio band was Olivia Newton-John’s band, who happened to be in Vegas performing, and were all from Nashville. “I kinda listen to signs. I try to do what the universe is telling me,” Sampson said. When Miss Nevada told Sampson she was moving to Nashville and needed a roommate, it was the final sign she needed. Without enough money to pay the rent, let alone make an album, Sampson put up her sails and set out for music city in the winter of 2015. She landed at The Nashville Biscuit House, a popular East Nashville breakfast spot, but no luxury cruise ship. “I was broke. I hated it,” she laughs. “I lasted three weeks there.” The experience is hilariously recounted in her song “Greasy Spoon,” a clever, coming-to-Nashville country romp, which, if there’s any justice in the world, will one day be a honky tonk standard. But despite moving to Nashville and immediately penning a perfect country song, Sampson doesn’t consider herself a country singer.

“I don’t consider my music country. I think if anything it’s more folk, and a little soul,” she says. “Really, what I like is rock and roll, but my music comes out the way it comes out.”

Her debut album, Wild Heart, recorded live to tape in just a couple days at popular East Nashville recording studio, The Bomb Shelter, is an intimate reflection of the voyage she has been on, seamlessly drawing from the musical styles she loves, while also forging her own identity. “I wanted it to sound real, raw. We didn’t do any auto-tuning or anything like that. I wanted it to have feeling, especially with my vocal,” she said. “That’s why people sing. It’s supposed to make you feel something.” The empowering, “She Shines,” which Sampson says is about “knowing your self worth and holding on to your power in the face of rejection,” tips its hat to Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” before soaring into new territory on the back of a lush string arrangement. The haunting “Come Back to Me,” about an ex-lover who died tragically in a car accident while Sampson was at sea, emotes as strongly as The Animals’ 1964 classic “House of the Rising Sun,” and features powerful swells recalling The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life.”

The 10-song Wild Heart is set for a late summer 2017 release, but already Sampson’s reputation for her live performances has landed her steady bookings in Nashville’s most popular clubs, including trendy East Nashville’s largest venue, The Basement East, where she was invited to sing with a group of standout Nashville acts at a packed Linda Ronstadt tribute concert. She may appear to be the new kid on the block, but Sampson’s mature artistic vision and embrace by one of the world’s best music scenes is not surprising, considering that she’s been around much more than the block, and she is no kid. “At sea, it was three years of performing every night for a live audience,” she said. “When I left California, I was a girl. And when I returned home from the ships, I was a woman. I just matured. I grew up.”

STU HAMM

STU HAMM

Through his innovative work as a solo artist and his contributions as a sideman to Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, STU HAMM has firmly established himself as one of the most influential electric bassists of the past half-century. Extending the non-traditional function of the electric bass previously revolutionized by Jaco Pastorius and Stanley Clarke in the 1970s, Hamm helped to reshape the contemporary concept of the bass guitar as an unaccompanied instrument with the utilization of polyphonic, two-handed tapping, slapping and popping techniques, chords, and harmonics. Although Hamm certainly wasn’t the first bass player to debut during the 1980s and employ an unorthodox approach to playing the electric bass, he was undoubtedly at the forefront of his generation who effectively fused the application of these unconventional techniques.
STU HAMM is a world class, utterly entertaining story-teller, legendary bass guitar icon, known also for playing and recording with some of the greatest guitarists of the recent decades: Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Greg Howe, Alex Skolnick, Richie Kotzen, Mike Keneally, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Michael Schenker, Richie Kotzen. and many others. Stu has been a monumental influence in jazz/rock style for many bass players worldwide.
STU HAMM is endorsed by Warwick basses, MarkBass amps and GHS strings.
blackalicious

BLACKALICIOUS

In a hip-hop career that has stretched past a decade, Blackalicious has earned respect the old-fashioned way–rising through honesty, commitment, and artistry. Blackalicious is an American hip hop duo from Sacramento, California made up of rapper Gift of Gab (born Tim Parker) and DJ/producer Chief Xcel (born Xavier Mosley). They are noted for Gift of Gab’s often “tongue-twisting”, multisyllabic, complex rhymes and Chief Xcel’s “classic” beats.

Like a few other West Coast rap acts, including the Pharcyde and Jurassic 5, Blackalicious has generally favored what hip-hoppers call the “positive tip”; in other words, its lyrics have often been spiritual and uplifting rather than violent or misogynous. Like a lot of experimental alternative rappers, Blackalicious can be quirky and eccentric; nonetheless, spirituality is a big part of the group’s music. Although Blackalicious wasn’t formed until the early ’90s, its members had known each other since the late ’80s. Founding members Gift of Gab (Timothy Parker) and Chief Xcel (Xavier Mosley) first met in Sacramento, CA, in 1987 when they were students at John F. Kennedy High School. Neither of them was originally from Sacramento; DJ/producer Xcel (who was going by DJ IceSki at the time) was a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, while rapper Gift of Gab was from Los Angeles’ suburban San Fernando Valley.

The two went their separate ways after Gift of Gab (also known as Gabby T) graduated from Kennedy High in 1989, but they were reunited in Davis, CA, in 1992. By that time, Xcel had become a student at the University of California at Davis and the Gift of Gabhad moved to Davis to form Blackalicious with him. UC Davis was where Xcel had started working with a hip-hop crew named SoleSides, whose members included DJ Shadow, Lateef the Truth Speaker, and Lyrics Born. SoleSides Records was the name of the SoleSides Crew’s Northern California record company and in 1994, that label released Blackalicious’ debut single “Swan Lake.” Although not a triple-platinum smash, the single was a small underground hit that fared well among alternative rap audiences. The following year, SoleSides Records released a Blackalicious EP titled Melodica. By late 1997, SoleSides Records had transformed into Quannum Records, and in 1999, Quannum put out another Blackalicious EP, A2G.

In 2000, Quannum released the group’s full-length debut Nia (whose title is the Swahili word for purpose). After being together eight years, Blackalicious finally signed with a major label when, in late 2000, the Californians were added by MCA. In April 2002, Quannum/MCA released Blazing Arrow, which boasted guest appearances ranging from vocalist Zack de la Rocha (of Rage Against the Machine) to the Roots’ ?uestlove to veteran soul singerGil Scott-Heron. After the requisite tour, both Xcel and Gab began developing solo material; Quannum released both Maroons’ Ambush (Chief Xcel with Latyrx’s Lateef the Truth Speaker) as well as a Gift of Gab solo LP, Fourth Dimensional Rocketships Going Up. The pair returned in 2005 for their third album, The Craft, with a contract in hand from the Anti- label. By Alex Henderson – All Music Guide.

DEAD WOLF

Established in early 2017 by Deyv Dee and Mike Rongo. Dead Wolf was looking to bring an old sound back to current times. With power packed lyrics and catchy guitar licks Dead wolf needed a strong back bone drummer, and Paul Mancuso fit the spot perfectly. After recording the 6 song EP at Populist studio in Wheaton, Illinois, in two days. Dead Wolf released their first single “Trendy” as a music video on Friday October 13th in 2017. Directly after that Dead wolf made a FM debut with the same song “Trendy” a week later. With the addition of Daniel Miller on additional guitar, Dead Wolf now carries the full pow, blow for blow at every event/concert/backyard party alike.

CHX COLLECTIVE

New music from Robert “Chicken” Sulzmann of She Likes Todd. More coming soon.

I have been involved in many music projects in the Chicagoland area, including SET FIRE TO REASON, MACGYVER, DICK’N YER FACE, and SHE LIKES TODD. SLT was my passion project, and it did pretty well. We toured the country a few times, played with so many great bands, and put out some of the music I’m most proud of. While we still play shows, we are not nearly as active as in the past, and we’ve all spread out to other projects. I continued to write solo music under the name DOWN SOLO, and while that kept me sane, it’s still not the same as getting on a stage with a few friends and rocking out. So, in the eternal quest to brand myself, I decided to use CHX, short for Chicken, as my name and get as much help from my fellow musician friends to put out new killer music for everyone to enjoy. And with that, CHX Collective was born.

CRAZY HEART

Don Flamingo

DON FLAMINGO

The SHOW must go on. Being resilient in any undertaking is a talent that few may know but has become a moniker and inspiration for Donald Allen III, previously known as, the SHOW of New Orleans, Louisiana, emerging as DON FLAMINGO. Coming from a city such as New Orleans, which is known for genres such as jazz, zydeco, blues, brass bands, and hip hop forming a musical legacy as unique as the soup this treasure is known for. When a southern rapper boasts of a resume that includes being associated with acts such as T.I., Scarface, Mannie Fresh, BG, and Lil Wayne while being named a BET Music Matters featured artist opening the BET Awards Music Matters Showcase as a part of the New Orleans super group, The Rap Pack, you would expect that artist to be a household name. Factor in cosigns from projects with other local staples like The Chopper City Boyz, Juvenile, C-Murder, Ace B and the New No Limit, and DON FLAMINGO should be the face of the business of music in New Orleans, but there’s no business like SHOW business and the SHOW must go on!

Releasing his ambitious Neva Say Die Series scheduled to release an EP of new music every month throughout 2016, Don Flamingo is no stranger to standing out amongst a crowd. This project is reminiscent of 2011’s EGMG Saturdays where a new freestyle was released every Saturday throughout the summer in anticipation of the final installment of the Downman on Back mixtape series. This time around, DON FLAMINGO isn’t getting ready for another major release through the independent East Gang Music Group, but merely showcasing his never ending resolve. 80s babies will appreciate the invocation to the 1985 classic the Goonies. The EP series will also boast of being composed entirely of songs with no names purposely done to focus listeners on the music. Future video releases will have titles for the showcased tracks, but which songs on which volumes EGMG is being very tightlipped about. This is the two time NOLA Hip Hop Awards Lyrist of the Year at his best, allowing his content and delivery to speak to listeners and encourage a scavenger hunt that may garner attention to hidden gems throughout the series.

DON FLAMINGO explains his mission in hip hop by stating “every rap artist has a similar story; growing up with no father, mom was a single parent so you learn from the streets, but when I put my twist to it, I create a variation of that story and make it my own.” Even the steps that DON FLAMINGO has taken to get to this point create a variation furthering the point; there’s no business like SHOW business. From his introduction to rap in 1995 via a poem dedicated to the memory of his deceased father, it was always the reception of his projects that kept DON FLAMINGO going. This reception allowed a joy to become a hobby, a hobby to transform to a talent, and a talent into a business. Now the business has come full circle back to a joy and because the SHOW must go on, the emergence of DON FLAMINGO is a friendly reminder to #NevaSayDie.

GQ

GQ

GQ, who Grammy Award winning producer, 9th Wonder, coins his “secret weapon” is not only a former NCAA basketball champion, but in fact Oakland’s next Hip Hop hero.

Born and raised in Oakland, California, GQ (also known as Quentin Thomas) found his passion for music at an early age; nine to be exact. Influenced by a wide array of music genres and artist, the young GQ became a fan of lyrics and started to pen his first rhymes; all while training to be a college hoops star. In 2004 he was recruited to play for UNC Tarheels head coach, Roy Williams, and was a member of the 2005 National Championship team his freshman year. Some years later, already a champion of one, he was well on his way to being a champion of the other – rhyming.

GQ signed with 9th Wonder in 2009, one of the last artist to join the budding Jamla roster, which has grown to be one of the most buzzed about indie labels today. Of the multi-talented emcee, 9th Wonder says, “he isn’t a basketball player that can rhyme, he is a rapper that can ball.”
His style is passionate, controlled, lyrical and he is a master of telling the gritty, dark tales of the place we know as “OakTown”.

In 2010, he was featured on EA Sports’ NBA Live 10, alongside Mississippi’s own, David Banner. The following year, the Oakland emcee released a few singles, and a three part mixtape series, entitled “Blended”, before unleashing his first project under the Jamla imprint, ‘Trouble Man’.

‘Trouble Man’ is a 16 song EP of original cuts, featuring production from 9th Wonder and The Soul Council, as well as guest appearances from labelmates Rapsody and Heather Victoria, and 6th Street Records’ Bluu Suede, and more.

Currently, GQ is setting up for a big 2013 introduction with his two part release, “Death Threats and Love Notes”, the prequel and debut album.

Like so many of his hometown predecessors such as Too Short, Digital Underground and the Hieroglyphics, GQ looks forward to being another example that there is light at the end of the tunnel, or bridge for that matter.

When asked how he wanted to be remembered when it’s all said and done, he humbly said, “I want to be an example, it doesn’t matter where you come from, all that matters is where you’re going. And, I just want to be remembered for how I carried myself, how I helped and motivated others to live right and reach their goals in life.”.

They say it’s different across the bridge, and there is something definitely different about GQ. In the words of 9th Wonder, simply put, “he’s a star”.

ALICE IN CHAINS “DIRT”

Dirt is the second studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on September 29, 1992, through Columbia Records. Peaking at number six on the Billboard 200, the album was also well received by music critics. It has since been certified four-times platinum by the RIAA and gone on to sell five million copies worldwide, making Dirt the band’s highest selling album to date. It is the band’s last album recorded with all four original members, as bassist Mike Starr was terminated from the band in January 1993.

Flint Eastwood

FLINT EASTWOOD

Much like the city that shapes her work, Detroit-based Jax Anderson, aka Flint Eastwood, wakes up everyday confronting a world that tells us that we are not good enough, not unique enough, not rich, beautiful or smart enough; not the right color; not the right gender. Success is as subjective as it is elusive, but if the debut single “Queen” from Anderson’s Broke Royalty EP reveals anything about the songstress, it’s that she’s everything she needs to be.

“Queen was written about the first time I was asked what it was like being a woman in music. I’ve always been the boss of my art– I write my own songs, I play shows, I design a lot of my own graphics, make my own videos, craft my own photos, and I hustle alongside an amazing group of people just like every artist does. I had never considered myself different for being a woman. I have always set the standard with my team that I am the boss, regardless of my gender identity.”

It’s more than a gender thing for the Detroit-based artist though. It’s about overcoming feelings of uncertainty and forces of disempowerment; it’s about realizing your self-worth and carving your own path. The powerful indie-pop record is filled with urban percussion and orchestral instrumentation, and is a fitting lead single for Flint Eastwood’s 2017 EP.

Crafted entirely at Assemble Sound, an 1870’s church repurposed into a recording compound and creative hub for musicians founded by Anderson in 2015, the project has production support from fellow Detroit-native GRiZ & MUTEMATH’s Paul Meany, as well as a track with principle BØRNS collaborator Tommy English, and a home with Neon Gold Records (Christine And The Queens, Charli XCX, Marina & The Diamonds, et al). Out now, Broke Royalty brings Flint Eastwood’s artistic vision and story to a national audience at a time when it’s needed most.

U.S. BOMBS

U.S. Bombs are an American punk rock band, formed in 1993 in Orange County, CA. U.S. Bombs consist of vocalist Duane Peters, guitarists Kerry Martinez and Jonny “Two Bags” Wickersham, bass guitarist Wade Walston and drummer Chip Hanna. Vocalist Duane Peters is a professional skateboarder from the late 70’s and early 80’s skate explosion in Southern California. Well known as “The Master of Disaster” and the first person to do a full loop on a skateboard, as well as the inventor of many tricks and an innovator in the pool skate realm. NATIVE TONGUE

In September of 2012, in Carbondale, Illinois, the thoughts and ideas that would soon become Driftwood Head began to take form. Two years later, the musicians who would form Native Tongue came together for the first time. With each member of the band carrying with them years of experience playing and performing regularly in local and regional bands, the winter of 2014 was spent writing and re-shaping these ideas. In March of 2015, the band traveled to Forty-One Fifteen Studios in Nashville, TN to record with producer Tate Mercer. On September 25, 2015, these ideas finally came to fruition, and their debut EP Driftwood Head was released to the masses. With an energetic live performance as unique as the music implies, Native Tongue is sure to catch your attention in one way or another.

“Vocally and instrumentally, Native Tongue brings it all to the table. Vocalist Jon Emling commands a vulnerable, at times conversely delicate or powerful, croon that lies somewhere between Kyle Durfey (Pianos Become The Teeth) and Jesse Lacey (Brand New). The rhythmic backbone is as solid as needed, and pushes the atmospheric guitar work to the forefront. Whether it’s the booming riffs in “Rorschach”, fragile arpeggios in “Prism”, or the euphoric post rock climax in exemplary closer “Strange Light”, the music shifts as needed to get just the right mood. There’s an unpredictability to the EP that keeps each moment tense in anticipation for what might come next, an unpredictability that rarely fails to pay off across Driftwood Head’s run time.” -Brett Tharp, sputnikmusic

Vox Kakumeika

VOX KAKUMEIKA

Barry J. Fontenot is a Louisiana-born, Chicago-based soul musician with a love of pushing boundaries and a flair for the dramatic. Raised in the “Deep Soul” and “Delta Blues” musical traditions, Barry’s vocal style brings to mind the strong, rich tenor notes of legendary singers such as Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. In his original compositions, however, Barry reveals the eclectic influences that have followed him throughout his musical journey—he strives, in his own words, to “write em’ like Jazz songs, play em’ like Rock songs, and sing em’ like Soul songs.”

Originally a Classical Tenor specializing in choral music, Barry decided to return to his musical roots in 2013, forming a Soul Band called “Barry Fontenot and the Hurricanes,” which performed mostly covers of the great Motown performers who had so inspired him in his youth. In 2014, while drunk and bleeding in Mexico, Barry wrote his first original song, “Desiree.” While the circumstances surrounding the song’s writing were less than glamourous, as Barry himself often explains (at-length) on stage, the experience of writing and performing original music was one that affected him to the extent that he now performs primarily his own songs, and has written upwards of three hours of performance material.

Upon moving to Chicago, Barry founded a small, flexible musical collective called “Vox Kakumeika,” which serves as his backing band and production team, and includes instrumentalists specializing in guitar, sitar, trombone, saxophone, and more. With this flexibility, Barry tailors his performance to the situation, playing with as many as seven other musicians, or as few as himself and his favorite guitar, Gladys.

Most recently, she was named one of the top female artist to know by both TIME Magazine and USA Today.  She was also named one of the 20 Greatest Female Rappers of All Time by XXL.  She most recently released a ten track EP titled Beauty and the Beast to much acclaim and she is currently working on her sophomore album.
In 2015, she was the only rap feature on Kendrick Lamar critically acclaimed album, To Pimp A Butterfly, on the song Complexion.  The same year Dr. Dre announced on his Apple Beats1 radio show, The Pharmacy, that she was currently his favorite female emcee.  A month later, she performed “Every Ghetto” with Talib Kweli on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon
Her style is polished and distinct, and her wordplay and flow are unparalleled in both delivery and execution.  As she strives to contend with her Hip Hop predecessors, like Jay-Z and Mos Def, Rapsody is already undeniably one of the strongest and most promising forces in today’s Hip Hop culture.

RICO NASTY

Maria Kelly’s name is in lights. The first thing you notice as the DMV artist walks across the room is “RICCCO”—long for her rap alias Rico Nasty—scrolling across her dark platform boots in LED bulbs. It’s a bold move, and there are far worse ways to make an entrance.
Rico Nasty isn’t a household name but she aspires to be, if her choice in footwear is anything to go by. Her biggest hits to date, like 2016’s “iCarly” and “Hey Arnold,” and this year’s “Poppin’,” sound like Nickelodeon slime dragged through the lean-infused streets of Atlanta before taking a pit stop in Chicago’s drill country. The songs are catchy and forceful, and introduced the world to Rico’s penchant for crafting half-sung, half-yelled bars she calls “yinging.”
What you quickly notice in conversation with Rico is a distinct split between her personas, which she alludes to in the interview. Tacobella is the name given to the saccharine and vulnerable side of Maria. For brief flashes, she shows pride when talking about her father, opens up about the difficulties of being a rapper on the rise, and connecting with UPS women over Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. It is this character that is front and center on the excellent 2017 project, Tales of Tacobella.
However, lurking below the surface is Rico Nasty. Confident, brash, and ready for war at a moment’s notice, she is a rapper’s rapper. It isn’t hard to see that this is the side that crafted “Poppin,” one of her biggest hits to date (and was featured in season 2 of HBO’s Insecure). It’s at her most aggressive that Rico’s most unique flows come into play; she modulates her voice at a moment’s notice to go from sweet to raspy and guttural—think Nicki Minaj with a hint of DMX, but over bubblegum beats.
During her headlining New York show at Baby’s All Right, both versions of these women came together for a blistering performance. By the end of the night Rico asked an adoring crowd what song she should play again, and in unison, the crowd screamed “Poppin.” She then beckoned to the crowd, and a sea of women rushed the stage to perform her soon-to-be hit alongside her. Rico joined Snapchat videos soundtracked by the infectious words, “I’m a poppin ass bitch let me remind ya.” For a moment, Rico Nasty did what very few rappers know how to do: make every single fan feel like a star.

Bill Grady

BILL GRADY

With a voice that feeds the soul, songs that speak to the heart, and guitar playing that will make you move, Bill Grady cannot be ignored. After discovering the lost art of slide guitar while attending Berklee College of Music, he began studying the classic slide masters and well as the great songwriters and composers of days gone by. Between his soulful vocals, slide guitar prowess, and vivid songwriting, his live shows are unlike any acoustic act you’ve ever seen.

His debut solo album “Nothing Runs Free” is a twelve-track concept album that tells the story of The Wanderer, a broken soul from Louisiana looking to find the courage to confront his fears and journey back home. Each track on the record draws influences from a different flavor of acoustic music, including the bluegrass-tinged rhythms of “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now,” the beautiful classical melody of “Annie’s Waltz,” the low-down bluesy swagger of “Train Came Right on Time,” or the New Orleans flavor of “French Quarter Mile.” Musicians on the record include Grammy-nominated harmonica player Billy Branch, violinist for the Infamous Stringdusters Jeremy Garrett, banjoist Wavy Dave of Cornmeal, as well as the amazing musicians that comprise nationally renowned Grateful Dead cover band Terrapin Flyer.

Bill performs both as a soloist and with a full band. He has opened for The Travelin’ McCourys, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, and Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band as well as sitting in with Robert Randolph and the Marshall Tucker Band. He has graced the stage of the Chicago Blues Fesitval, Shoe Fest, Manifest Chicago, and Blottopia, as well as performing on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Igorrr

IGORRR

Initially influenced by the likes of Meshuggah, Chopin, Cannibal Corpse, Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Taraf de Haidouks and Aphex Twin, traces of these artists can be found littered across Igorrr’s discography, but Serre has never been interested in remaining static or merely recycling ideas, and his work has dramatically evolved accordingly. It deeply explains how Igorrr’s music is such an explosion of creativity while keeping a cohesive universe records after records.
In recent years, Igorrr has also become a collective, rather than the work of one man alone, which has brought a new level of intensity into the group live representations.
