Fine Lines

FINE LINES

By: Jack Evan Johnson,

Like Jagger and Richards, Lennon and McCartney, and peanut butter and jelly, some things combined are better than their individual parts. Fine Lines, one of Nashville’s best new rock ’n’ roll bands, is no different. Comprised of two members of Indiana’s hard rock music scene, and two former members of a prodigious Alabama bar band, Fine Lines converged in Music City to make a sound that is both aggressive and soulful, sweet and sour, sticky and smooth.

Like all great rock ’n’ roll bands, Fine Lines started with a restaurant job — no, wait. That came later. It actually started with powerhouse singer and guitarist Chris Probasco trying to pick up the pieces after the dissolution of his Indianapolis-based hard rock band Goliathon, which he says “died the natural death” of people moving in different directions and starting families. Though the riff-heavy Goliathon was a fixture in the midwest music scene — once opening for hard rock behemoths The Sword — the band’s breakup allowed Probasco to develop his own songwriting. “I learned how to make my own demos, and write and rediscover what I wanted to do,” he said.

Probasco moved to Nashville in 2015. He cut his hair and his beard to get a job at a hotel, and despite once delivering room service to a very hungry Mick Jagger, it was far from the rock and roll life he desired. “I was doing what I had to do to get a foot in the town,” Probasco said. So he kept writing, and waiting. Things started to come together when Probasco saw his co-worker B.L. Reed play, with longtime drummer James Thompson on drums. “I immediately thought, ‘There it is. They’re exactly what I want,’” Probasco said.

Reed, a singer/songwriter and southern rock guitar whiz from Alabama, had been living in Nashville for some time playing with his own band and others, most notably breakout Americana artist Kashena Sampson. He and Thompson had been a team since the days of their Birmingham, Alabama blues rock group Blue Moon, which, as teenagers, tore up southern stages with a debt to The Black Crowes and Guns N’ Roses, and even once opened for Blind Melon. “(Fine Lines) gave me an outlet to kinda go back to my roots of playing, which was rock guitar,” Reed said.

Not long after a couple informal jams with Reed and Thompson, Dustyn Roth, a fellow Indianapolis musician, with a background spanning from garage rock to a Prince cover band, told Probasco he was moving to town. Probasco told Roth he needed a bassist. “It sounded great from the first note. It all felt very serendipitous,” Probasco said. And with a lineup in place, he said, Fine Lines were “off to the races. It was like the music in my head was being played.” The band began working on its debut album at Nashville’s Gnome recording studio in late 2017, with producer Don Bates. And in January 2018, Fine Lines locked in a month-long residency at popular East Nashville rock bar The Cobra.

Despite its strengths, Fine Lines is not a vocals band. And not a guitar band. It’s just a good band. And when done right, that’s all you need to be. “I think of us as a rock band. I don’t put ‘alternative’ on the front or ‘garage’ on the front,” Probasco said. “My hope is people just can’t get the songs out of their head.”

The Fifth Star Band

THE FIFTH STAR BAND

Formed in the summer of ’16, The Fifth Star Band is a youthful group of raconteurs looking to make their impact on the music landscape with their soulful jazzy twist on American Traditional Rock.

The unique sound The Fifth Star Band has been able to cultivate is largely due to the diverse musical backgrounds each member of the group brings to the table. While at its core, Jordan Sawyer’s songwriting embodies a modern take on American Traditional Rock, throw in some funky bass licks, a strong jazzy beat, and a smooth dose of Eric Pedone’s sax and you get a sound unlike any other.

CLAUDIO SIMONETTI”S GOBLIN

Goblin’s life has been full of separations, reunions and various line- ups that have characterized the tortuous history of this group over the past almost 40 years.

The band was originally formed by myself and Massimo Morante, born from the ashes of Cherry Five (Oliver), thanks to my father Enrico who brought us to the Cinevox Record label in 1974.

From the first historical line-up of Claudio Simonetti: keyboards, Walter Martino: drums, Fabio Pigntelli: bass and Massimo Morante: guitar, that composed the soundtrack of Profondo Rosso/Deep Red, there have been several changes within the band. Starting with the replacement of Walter Martino with Agostino Marangolo on drums, which lasted until 1978, the date of final separation of the “first Goblin republic”, and the participation of keyboardist Maurizio Guarini on the album Roller in 1976.

After the separation in 1978, the band continued to exist with another line-up, led by Fabio Pignatelli, and that’s why we used three names (Simonetti-Morante-Pignatelli) for Tenebre instead of the name Goblin, and were accompanied by other musicians from the Cinevox Record label.

In 1984 the band was reduced to two members, me and Fabio Pignatelli, and we recorded some songs for Dario Argento’s Phenomena (excluding the main theme Phenomena, which was my own composition). Morante and Marangolo had not done anything with Goblin from 1978 to 2000 when I proposed to Argento that we reunite the band for the soundtrack of his film Non Ho Sonno/Sleepless, but sadly the brief reunion ended just after we finished recording the soundtrack.

Many other bands were formed in the following years inspired by the original Goblin: Daemonia, BacktotheGoblin, Goblin Rebirth and New Goblin, all with original members of the band in one combination or another.

Now, with two members of New Goblin, Titta Tani on drums and Bruno Previtali on guitar, and Federico Amorosi (original Daemonia member) on the bass, I formed my own version of the band named Claudio Simonetti ‘s Goblin.

Claudio Simonetti: keyboards
Bruno Previtali: guitars
Cecilia Nappo: bass
Federico Maragoni: drums

We don’t want to ignore any band that is currently active with a similar name, we simply want to continue spreading the great legacy of Goblin’s music in our own way, music that has inspired so many bands and so many generations of musicians over the years.

DON ALFORD & THE BLACK MAMBA

After playing on live recordings with a number of artists from 2003 thru 2010 Donald Alford II felt it was time to produce his own record. In May 2010, as owner of Don J Music Productions, Donald released his first project, entitled “Chasing Dreams”. This inspirational jazz project resonates the sound and influence of instrumental jazz greats that have touched many lives around the world.

“Chasing Dreams” is the result of years of dreaming and chasing greatness. Donald Alford II received a vast amount of his musical inspiration from his father, Donald L. Alford Sr., an extraordinary songwriter, psalmist and composer. Growing up in Maywood, Illinois while attending his father’s church, Donald II learned to value and love great music by listening to some of gospel’s most influential musicians and artists.

As a young child, Donald found music to be one of his primary interests. He first began playing the guitar and later took interest in the bass guitar. While continuing to perfect his craft, Donald’s amazing skill provided him the opportunity to become a full-time musician, not only in his local church, but in other churches in the Chicagoland area.

Donald Alford II is no ordinary bass guitar player. His soulful expression has gained him notoriety and allowed him to tour with gospel greats, such as, Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, BeeBee& CeeCee Winans, THE WINANS, Smokie Norful, Donald Lawrence, J. Moss, Walter Hawkins, De’Andre Patterson and Vashawn Mitchell. He has also performed with artists, such as, Pattie Labelle, Mary Mary, The Clark Sisters, Donnie McClurkin, Tramaine Hawkins, The Winans, Hezekiah Walker and Kim Burrell.

As his musical demand grew, he began writing and producing music with an infusion of various genres’ gaining him musical credit as a songwriter, composer and producer for artist’s such as Keyshia Cole “Trust” (Different Me), Syleena Johnson “Be Me” (Labor Pains Chapter 4) and being nominated for the 2010 Grammy’s for Charlie Wilson “Supa Sexxy.” Donald Alford II’s awards include being honored at ASCAP’s 23rd Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, recognizing the song “TRUST” as one of the top ASCAP songs on the 2009 year-end charts.

JOHN FERRARA + SETH MOUTAL DUO

Excerpt from Bass Player Magazine – “We wanted our debut to be an honest representation of ourselves,” John says.“While there’s a lot of shredding, Indian rhythms, looping and tapping, each song has immense emotional significance. We took our time to make sure nothing was gratuitous. This album is who we are. I play a 5-string bass and loop chords and melodies while playing basslines on my homemade Taurus pedals. Seth plays drum set, tablas, and a variety of hand percussion instruments. We play everything you hear on the album, and we try not to record it if we can’t do it live.” Moutal’s plethora of percussive timbres blends with Ferrara’s trademark cascading loops and growling hand-built synths to create an immersive tapestry of sound and groove.

John Ferrara is a founding member of Consider the Source, a bassist, composer, and teacher.

John’s style blends deep grooves, contrapuntal tapping, dense chords and classical Indian percussion, with shades of avant guard experimentation. He has earned a reputation as a renaissance bassist, pulling from many different techniques from slapping, to tapping to finger style. He utilizes looping and custom midi foot pedals to play bass lines, freeing up his hands to treat his instrument like a piano, guitar, percussion instrument or vocalist. Combining all these together makes for a massive sound.

PRINCE “1999”

1999 is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on October 27, 1982, by Warner Bros. Records. 1999 was Prince’s breakthrough album, but his next album, Purple Rain, would become his most successful. The title track was a protest against nuclear proliferation and became his first top ten hit in countries outside the United States. The album was his first top ten album on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States (peaking at number 9, besting that peak at number 7 after his death in 2016) and became the fifth best-selling album of 1983 overall, eventually being certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA.

Shalizar Ensemble

SHALIZAR ENSEMBLE

Shalizar Ensemble performs traditional Persian music from several regions and ethnic groups within Iran, along with music from Afghanistan and Central Asia. The ensemble was started in 2014 by members of the Middle East Music Ensemble at the University of Chicago, and includes a mix of Middle Eastern and American musicians performing on traditional percussion and stringed instruments from the Middle East and Central Asia, violins, and vocals in Farsi and other languages and dialects.

Shalizar is Farsi for marshy meadow, and is used to describe the landscapes in Iran where rice is commonly grown. The ensemble chose this name in homage to the marshy landscape of the Chicago region, and as a reflection of the interests of many of its members in environmental science and conservation.

DAVID LIEBE HART

Known for his roles on Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, and extensive tours throughout the US, Canada and Australia, David Liebe Hart is an outsider musician, actor and painter. A true original, he has communicated with extra-terrestrials, owns a large collection of puppets, and is obsessed with trains. While his vast and bizarre catalog of songs about aliens, religion, and failed relationships has yielded cult hits, such as “Salame”, “Father & Son” and “Puberty”, his recent collaborations with electronic musician Jonah Mociun, AKA Th’ Mole, have propelled Liebe Hart into previously unexplored territory.

Throughout the past decade Liebe Hart has garnered a substantial and die-hard fan base, not only from his TV and film appearances but from his stints on the road performing music all across the US, UK, Ireland and Australia. His followers are extremely supportive and loyal, won over by David’s obvious goodheartedness, honesty and hilarious idiosyncrasies, as well his fun and engaging stage shows. As the public demands it, David is traveling the globe in 2015 in conjunction with the release of his new album, Astronaut. On the heels of his triumphant return to Australia in March, David will spend the rest of the spring and summer canvasing the US.

With Jonah Mociun as backing musician, Liebe Hart puts on a show certain to please old fans and new ones alike. In addition to creating electronicised versions of David’s old favorites, the duo performs their new songs along with puppets, projected video accompaniment, and David’s oddly endearing stories of past relationships and paranormal encounters.

CHIP THE BLACK BOY

Chip The Black Boy was once just one of David’s puppets but has taken on a life of his own with the help of frequent Liebe Hart collaborator Jonah Mociun who has re-fashioned Chip into a creepy high-pitched rapper. With an album of his own and a hit YouTube video (“Am I Weird?”) Chip now takes the stage as a solo act.

WHATEVER YOUR HEART DESIRES

Whatever Your Heart Desires is Jonah Mociun, a 19-year-old asexual cyborg orphan Eskimo. Raised on an anarchist commune which was eventually infiltrated and dismantled by Malaysian nihilists, she fled from her home at the age of 9, hopping a train from Alaska to South Central, California, where she lived in a refrigerator box and gradually taught herself to tap-dance using soda cans as shoes. Busking on the streets by day, and prostituting himself by night, Jonah eventually raised enough funds to purchase a stolen iPhone, with which he began composing music on an app called FunkyBeatz. Relocating to Oaxaca, Mexico at the age of 10, living under a banana tree, surviving mainly on wildcrafted fruits, leaves and insects, Mociun spent the next 13 years creating the music you hear today. Drawing her influences from old school hip hop, hardcore punk, and Japanese footwork, Whatever Your Heart Desires is Jonah’s best attempt at challenging mainstream EDM music.

AC/DC “BACK IN BLACK”

Back in Black is the seventh studio album by Australian rock band AC/DC. Produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lange, the album was released on 25 July 1980 via Albert Productions and Atlantic Records.

By the late 1970s, AC/DC began achieving significant popularity outside their native Australia, with high-energy live performances and a series of successful albums. They had previously paired with producer Lange in 1978, recording their international breakthrough hit album Highway to Hell. Back in Black was the band’s first album featuring vocalist Brian Johnson, who replaced Bon Scott after the latter had died back in February of that same year, shortly before the band actually started recording the album. Instead of disbanding, the group decided to continue on with Johnson.

Back in Black was recorded over seven weeks in the Bahamas between April and May 1980. Because the area was hit by tropical storms at the time, recording sessions became difficult on some occasions. Composed by Johnson, Angus and Malcolm Young, the album’s musical content consists of hard rock-styled numbers. Lange demanded perfection in the band’s recordings, particularly on Johnson’s vocals. Following its completion, the group mixed Back in Black at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. The album’s all-black cover was designed as a “sign of mourning” for Scott.

THE CULT “ELECTRIC”

Electric is the third album by British rock band The Cult, released in 1987. It was the follow-up to their commercial breakthrough Love. The album equalled its predecessor’s chart placing by peaking at number four in the UK but exceeded its chart residency, spending a total of 27 weeks on the chart (the most successful run for an album by The Cult).

PFLT “Plastic Fantastic Lobster Telephone” brings you Cult’s “Electric”

Coming off several years as Black Sabbath II: The Resurrection, Chicago’s most storied purveyors of seminal doom rock are recreating themselves as The Cult!

They will be performing the seminal rock masterpiece “Electric” in it’s entirely, as well as several other Cult classics, and hope to bring the same ferocity to this as they did to Sabbath’s “Paranoid” album.

The band is:
Steve Cavanaugh – gtr Jimmy Kerwin – drums Mat Lombardi – bass Lyle Zimmerman – vox

With decades of work together in various bands and projects, these guys find themselves in the enviable position of doing whatever the hell they want to do. That might explain the insanity of pulling the plug on BSII:tR.

The Sabbath tribute was well received all over the city and suburbs. Focusing on early Sabbath, but playing it with the precision of a more mature Sabbath, their shows always left the audience swooning over what they had just seen.

“We could have carried on”, says Steve, the leader of this motley crew, “but we felt that we had accomplished as much as we could playing those songs. We had no intention of moving into the later material, so the decision to move on was made.” During discussions over beer and peanuts, the choice was made to attack The Cult.

The instrumentation is made for this core of players. While Lyle was more than equipped to take on the great Oz Ozzy, the more flamboyant vocal stylings of Cult play right into his wheelhouse. With Steve nailing Billy Duffy’s massive snarling riffs and solos, and Jimmy and Mat holding down the pile driving rhythm section, this version of Electric should be something that would make Ian’s mother proud.

Bassist Lombardi quips, “I really love the tribute concept. I have been working on originals since I was a kid, and had little use for doing covers. However, This project allows us to really study the music. Get into the heads of the players, and bring an authenticity to our renditions of the music. We would not do this unless we thought it would be as good as the actual band.” “so, like, 26-inch bass drum…”, added Kerwin.

Hard work, and too much time on their hands. The next version of the next version. PFLT brings you Cult’s “Electric”. Coming to a club near you.

ALLYSA GRACE

Allysa Grace has had the opportunity to be a part of many amazing musical projects thanks to her upbringing in Austin, Texas. The music community raised her through the orchestras as a violist; in RnB groups as a vocalist; and with her favorite vocalists as a keyboardist. These different musical experiences have inspired her to front her own group.

Her band is reminiscent of your favorite soul artists, but her experience draws you to her worldly roots. This beautiful combination of neo soul, jazz, and raw talent will blow you away.

She plays shows with her band and other projects in central Texas. Allysa also participates/organizes in community groups in Austin.
She currently teaches piano and violin at the wonderful Sense and Color School of Music, when she isn’t on tour with chicano rock group Tito and Tarantula.

WOLFHEART

Tuomas Saukkonen shocked everyone in 2012 with his announcement that he will bury all of his metal music projects at the same time to start anew. Before The Dawn, Black Sun Aeon, Dawn Of Solace and RoutaSielu received their coup de grâce February 23rd, 2013.

After years of pouring his creative juices to projects too numerous to count, since the end of 2012 Saukkonen has focused on just one labour of love, WOLFHEART.

Be the approach melodic and hopeful, acoustic and fragile, harsh black/death metal or atmospheric doom, ‘WINTERBORN’ has it all, in a mix like of which you haven’t heard before.

Saukkonen recorded and released ‘WINTERBORN’ entirely by himself playing all the instruments and doing all the vocals, with Mika Lammassaari (Eternal Tears Of Sorrow, Mors Subita) as his only guest, playing guitar solos.
‘WINTERBORN’ proved a roaring critical success scoring high ratings in reviews left and right. To cap off a great year for his project, ‘WINTERBORN’ was elected the best debut album of 2013 in the annual Record Store Äx customers’ poll. WOLFHEART deserved to be a fully operating band.

2014 / 2015 took the band on the road to the national stages with Shade Empire and Finntroll, into the international stages with the first European tour with Swallow The Sun and even to Tokyo with Sonata Arctica etc.

Also big european / scandinavian festivals were targeted and the climax of the 2015 was the 2nd album ‘SHADOW WORLD’ which continued the path of critical praises and was the first product from the co-operation with Spinefarm records (Universal).

After a rapid ride since the release of the debut and second album the band cleared the calender in the beginning of 2016 and started the pre-production of the 3rd album in the legendary Petrax studios (CoB, HIM, Korpiklaani etc). Only few selected festival shows were booked to break the studio cycle but the focus has been intense and the scheduled release of the ‘TYHJYYS’ -album was set to the march of 2017.

January 2017 Wolfheart headed back to tour in Europe with Insomnium and Barren Earth for 19 concerts.

March 2017 started with the release ‘TYHJYYS’ (finnish meaning emptiness) -album via Spinefarm Records. The album received dozens of high-rated reviews across the globe. March 2017 continued with a headliner tour in Spain and with two concerts with Dark Tranquillity in Finland and with autumn tour in Europe with Ensiferum and Skyclad.

Festivals 2017: Dark Troll Festival (GER), Nummirock (FIN), Rock Harz (GER), John Smith (FIN), Gothoom (SVK), Wacken Open Air (GER), Rockstadt Extreme Fest (RO), Brutal Assault (CZ), Bloodstock (UK), Summer Dying Loud (PL), Iberian Warriors (ESP)

At the beginning of 2018 the band performed in the legendary 70000tons of metal cruise (US) and Nordic Metal Cruise (SWE) and soon the band will hit the stage in Ragnarök festival in Germany. The band has also announced so far their headlining tour in Canada and summer festivals; Rock Fest Barcelona (ESP), Gefle Metal Festival (SWE), Party San Open Air (GER) and Summer Breeze festival (GER).

Wolfheart signed to Napalm Records at the beginning of 2018 and is currently making their 4th album.

Wolfheart has four members:

Tuomas Saukkonen – lead vocalist & guitar (Before The Dawn, Black Sun Aeon, Dawn Of Solace, Routasielu)

Mors Principium Est

MORS PRINCIPIUM EST

In 1999, Mors Principium Est was established by singer/lead guitarist Jori Haukio, guitarist Jarkko Kokko and keyboardist Toni Nummelin. Drummer Mikko Sipola joined in late 1999, soon followed by the arrival of new vocalist Ville Viljanen in early 2000 when Jori decided to focus on his guitar work. With the first demo “Before Birth” released in 2001, and after Listenable Records became interested, bassist Teemu Heinola was appointed.

One year and two demos later, Mors Principium Est signed a three-album contract with Listenable Records in 2002. Their debut album, “Inhumanity” was recorded and mixed by Ahti Kortelainen in Finland at Tico-Tico Studios, and mastered at Finnvox Studios. The album was released in 2003.

The second album, “The Unborn” was recorded at Tico-Tico Studios, and mastered at Finnvox Studios. The album was released in 2005. Following the release, the band played at Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles Six-Pack Metal Festival in Cleveland, USA, their first gig outside Finland.

Their Listenable Records contract was completed by their third album “Liberation = Termination” released in 2007. The album was recorded in many locations, including Astia Studios, and was mastered at Imperial Mastering in California, USA.

Between 2007 and 2011 there were a series of line-up changes which led to a hiatus. In 2011 the band announced that they would search for members worldwide. After over 200 applications, Andy Gillion from the UK was found as main songwriter and lead guitarist, to feature alongside Ville, Teemu, and Mikko.

In 2012, The band signed to German record label, AFM Records, alongside Marquee Records (Japan), and Truth Inc Records (Australia). Following this, the fourth studio album, “…and Death Said Live” was released, mixed and mastered by the legendary Thomas ‘Plec’ Johansson at the “The Panic Room”, Sweden. In 2013 the band began to tour again, starting in South Korea and Japan, as well as an European tour with The Agonist.

“Dawn of the 5th Era” was released in 2014, mixed and mastered again by Thomas ‘Plec’ Johansson at the “The Panic Room”, Sweden. After the release of the album, the band played, for example, Summer Breeze Festival, Brutal Assault Festival, as well as several shows in Japan, China and Hong Kong, to name but a few.

In 2017, Mors Principium Est returned with their latest album, “Embers of a Dying World”, mixed and mastered by none other than Thomas ‘Plec’ Johansson at the “The Panic Room”, Sweden. Following the release, the band played 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise, Summer Breeze festival, and shows in Russia, Japan and Singapore.

The band continue to tour, with more shows to be announced soon…

Jag Panzer came together in late 1981, being inspired by the onslaught of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The original line-up consisted of Harry Conklin on vocals (later nicknamed the “Tyrant”), Mark Briody (who was the sole guitarist of the group in its first incarnation), John Tetley who played the bass, and Rick Hilyard as the drummer. The band was known as Tyrant in its first incarnation. They soon had to change their name, because another such named band existed in California.

The band, who were all in their teens at the time, played at local venues in the Denver club circuit, and recorded an EP in 1983, later known as Tyrants. In early 1984, the band recruited Joey Tafolla, a native of California, and promptly recorded their first album, Ample Destruction. The album was released in August of that year by the independent record label Azra Records. The album was an underground hit in the United States and Europe.

Joey Tafolla left the band in 1986 to pursue a solo career. Harry Conklin played with Riot for a brief period in the late 1980s, before joining Titan Force. Mark Briody and John Tetley revamped the band by recruiting vocalist Bob Parduba, guitarist Christian Lasegue, and drummer Rikard Stjernquist. The lineup recorded the album ‘Chain of Command’. However that album did not see an official release until several years later.

In 1994, the band, with vocalist Daniel J. Conca, with Tetley and Briody on bass and guitar, guitarist Chris Kostka and drummer Rikard Stjernquist, recorded the album, Dissident Alliance. It was released by the German indie label Rising Sun.

The next album was on Century Media, The Fourth Judgement, which came out in late 1997. Guitarist Chris Broderick joined the band and they recorded The Age of Mastery (1998). Jag Panzer then sought to tackle more ambitious territory for their next album, with Thane to the Throne, a concept album about William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Mechanized Warfare was released in 2001, followed by Decade of the Nail Spiked Bat which came out in 2003, and featured re-recorded and remixed old material. In 2004, the band released Casting the Stones. The previously unreleased Chain of Command album was remixed and was issued in 2004 as a limited edition.

In 2008, Chris Broderick left the band to join Megadeth, and was replaced by Christian Lasegue, who handled lead guitar duties on Chain of Command.

On December 23, 2008, Briody made a post on the band’s official forum stating that the title of their next album would be The Scourge of the Light. On the official site, the band announced that SPV/Sony planned to release the album in February 2011. The album was released March 8, 2011. Two weeks after its release, The Scourge of the Light placed at No. 117 on the Billboard New Artist Chart, making the album Jag Panzer’s most successful to date.

In 2013 High Roller Records released a 4-LP vinyl box set entitled Historical Battles – The Early Years. High Roller also released remastered versions of the first four releases from the band.

In 2014 the band return to Europe for a tour and will begin working on a new album. It is been speculated that the new album will be a concept album.

Windy City Street Metal

WHITE NAILS

Hailing from Quebec City, Canada, Whitenails is a stoner rock band, influenced by the sounds of Pentagram, Black Sabbath and Kyuss, Whitenails adds a psychedelic touch to their debut album First Trip. Heavy riffs are not lacking on this business card which has received a very positive critical reception. Add a very seventies visual and you have a band that quickly gets a top spot on the scene.

San Andreas Fault

SAN ANDREAS FAULT

The surf-noir instrumental and narrative stylings of the San Andreas Fault began in 1999 in a Chicago steel plant. Founders Robert Spain and Pete Machine catalogued the sound of heartbreak with the 2003 CD “Encantada” and reunited in 2013.

THE KING OF MARS

The King of Mars (TKOM) formed in 2015 as a traditional four-piece rock band and has since evolved into a larger group with synths, auxiliary percussion, and a horn section. Their sound shakes the foundation of traditional rock music by encompassing Jazz, Funk, and Soul musicality alongside insightful lyricism.

TKOM consistently performs at many popular Chicago venues. In the summer of 2018, they will release two singles followed by the release of their 2nd EP in the fall.

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT

Born in the metropolis: Imperial Triumphant embodies the sounds of New York. The chaos, the menagerie, the perils and majesty of the greatest city on earth. We portray this great juxtaposition between high society luxury coexisting with absolute filth and urban decay. Our city is like the corpse of a giant. What was once so bright, grand and spectacular, is now filled with greedy maggots writhing towards their share of ‘success’. We don’t support it nor are we against. We only play the sounds of the New York City as we hear them.

KOTA the Friend

KOTA THE FRIEND

KOTA The Friend is an artist from the downtown section of Brooklyn, New York. At a young age he was exposed to hip hop, R & B, Jazz and Soul music during the infamous 90’s era. By the time young KOTA was 8 years old he joined his schools music program and excelled as a trumpet player. In high school KOTA was the leader of the trumpet section while teaching himself to play the guitar and piano. During this time he also picked up two weekend jobs to build a home studio where he would record hip hop tracks as well as folk songs that were accompanied by his guitar playing. During his High School days he became interested in a plethora of different artists and bands like The Beatles, J Dilla, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and countless other acts. This inspired KOTA to start a band that would put on local showcases in the Brooklyn area that banded many aspiring artists together during this time. Some of those acts include Phony Ppl, Dyme-A-Duzin, Capital Steez formerly known as Jay Steez and many others. During his college days KOTA was introduced to an R&B singer and a quirky rapper and started a hiphop/neo soul group. They would go on to play venues like The Knitting Factory and open up for Slum Village. After a year of college KOTA returned home to focus more on music. Dealing with deep depression and a lack of income he decided that although he didn’t want a 9 to 5 job he needed money to sustain himself. At 19 years old he decided to pick up cinematography being that a lot of his artistic friends needed the service and he could feed that need if he were to excel at the craft.

GUERILLA DIX

Manticora

MANTICORA

MANTICORA was formed in 1997 by Lars Larsen (vocals), Kristian Larsen (guitars) and Mads Volf (drums). In the early days the band was a foursome with bass player Rene as the last member – the young guys laying the foundation of the MANTICORA-trademark sound; hard hitting power metal with both epic and thrash elements.

In 1998 MANTICORA signed with Intromental Management and shortly afterwards their first record deal was signed with Greek record label Black Lotus. The same year the band added an extra guitarist, and a keyboardist, to the line-up. The debut full-length disc, “Roots Of Eternity”, was released in summer 1999, and received tremendously good response from both media and fans around the world.

2000 saw the band signing with Scarlet Records, and half a year later the next opus, “Darkness With Tales To Tell”, was released, once again receiving great acclaim. In 2001 bassist Rene decided to leave the band to focus on his family. Kasper Gram was enrolled in the band. Along with the change of bassist came also the change of guitarist, as Flemming left MANTICORA and Martin Arendal joined the band.

In the fall 2002 “Hyperion” was released. This was the so-far most wide-spanning work of the band; an epic concept album, based on the award winning sci-fi novel “Hyperion” by Dan Simmons. The album was whole-heartedly embraced by fans and media worldwide, and with a European tour in the spring 2003 MANTICORA took another step up the ladder.

In early 2004 the band began working on and releasing their next disc, “8 Deadly Sins”, yet another conceptual one. The album was recorded in Jailhouse Studios with producer Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Pretty Maids, etc.). In February 2005 the band toured throughout Europe together with Angra and Edenbridge. The tour was a great success for the band and they made a lot of new fans and friends there. Joining the band, was session-guitarist Stefan Johansson. The band then did their first ever (highly successful) US appareance at the ProgPower Festival in Atlanta, GA.

With Martin Arendal (guitars) returning to the fold after the tour, the band once again went into studio, to record it’s 5th full-length album, the first part of the 2-album concept “The Black Circus”. Lyrically it deals with the horror story of a travelling circus. Once again produced by Tommy Hansen, the album was bigger, better and more adventurous than ever before. After a mini-European tour, alongside Andromeda, MANTICORA hit Jailhouse Studio to finalize the 2nd part of “The Black Circus”. With “The Black Circus Part 2” in their now extended catalogue, MANTICORAwent on both European and USA tours, as support for Jon Oliva’s Pain, and another tour was booked for Europe in May 2009, as support band for Circle II Circle. This time, going through 16 countries for 21 shows.

In 2010 MANTICORA’s 7th full length album was released worldwide. “Safe” was an even darker journey in the musical universe of MANTICORA. A European headliner tour was booked for October 2010, taking the band through nine different countries.

In August 2012, MANTICORA finally performed at the world’s largest metal festival – Wacken Open Air, and it lead to the band, re-opening the goodie-bag of writing new material. April 2013, saw the band, playing the prestigious PPM festival in Belgium, and a month later, Martin Arendal played his last show with MANTICORA (a smaller Danish show). Stefan Johansson – who appeared as session musician on the 2005 Angra tour, was enrolled as new guitarist and when bassplayer Kasper Gram left the band, MANTICORA found a completely unknown, but indecently talented guy in Sebastian Andersen.

After a European headliner tour in 2014, Mads Volf decided to leave the drum-throne, to pursue other musical endeavors, and the last 3 years, MANTICORA have spent, writing a grandiose double concept album, based on the book, that leadsinger Lars has written in the meantime.

Release is set for 2018. Until then – stay metal!
