Swirling sounds and mysterious voices introduce Hyborian Volume I, drawing you in, as you wonder what’s going on in the audio depths. The moment the guitars burst into life on “As Above, So Below,” though – you’re hooked in. The opening cut on the debut release from the Kansas City quartet Hyborian is a powerful attack of guitar interplay, sure to appeal to any fan of High On Fire’s stoner riffage or the progressive lyrical strengths of Mastodon.
The recording is absolutely massive, but despite the stoner rock influences, there’s no sludge here. It’s clean. There’s not a bunch of effects on Hyborian Volume I. It’s stark and big: pretty much plug in, turn up, and go.
“We’re pretty big into old-school Metallica and stuff like that, but everybody in this band worships Matt Pike,” says the band’s frontman and guitarist, Martin Bush. “While we don’t really sound like Sleep, and we’re a lot more progressive than High On Fire is, that stark, straightforward raw aesthetic is really what we’re going for.”
To make Hyborian Volume I, the band built themselves a studio in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, rather than opting to put the money into recording somewhere else. It allowed Hyborian’s record to be exactly what they intended it to be.
“We thought, ‘We’ve got these songs – what are we going to do?’” explains Bush as to why the band put the money into something that can be reused and be a home for themselves. Everything on the record was written specifically for Hyborian Volume I, with the band choosing to move beyond old material.
“We don’t even really play that first group of songs anymore, because we hadn’t really figured out who we wanted to be,” Bush continues “Our sound hadn’t really been defined yet. The first group of songs were just really all over the place, and lacked focus.”
Hyborian’s focus is now razor-sharp – Volume I is a very big thing, but it’s subtle. Writing a song like “Blood For Blood,” with its decaying cyclical chug is more than just a riff-a-thon. The in thing for heavy music nowadays is to allow space for a jam, while the band drones on. Hyborian writes something, then breaks it down into its component parts, and figure out ways to create melodies and countermelodies, chord inversions, all of which really set Hyborian’s songs apart from the pack.
Lyrically, they’re looking to the low fantasy, sword-and-sorcery pulp aspect of things like Robert E. Howard’s Conan stories to give the band’s songwriting focus and direction. They’re building a mythology with the band. Lyrics, artwork, and everything tie into their concept of an interstellar, extra-dimensional being called the Traveler – that cloaked figure on the cover of the record. Hyborian is the Traveler’s chosen mouthpiece for this time in existence. He touched history, and at this place and time, so the band tells his legends from the time before written language.
From its inception two years ago, Hyborian had always pretty much been Bush, fellow guitarist and vocalist Ryan Bates and drummer Justin Rippeto. They’d gone through a couple different bass players, but it took a while to find the right guy to become a permanent fixture, and take the trio plus one into a true quartet. When Anthony Diale joined the band last year, that’s what gelled Hyborian as a group, and when the band really figured out what their strengths were, and how to carve out their own space in a very crowded world of metal. Now that Hyborian is there, they know what they’re doing and where they’re at.
“If a Hyborian cult happened to pop up, that would be fine, too,” laughs Bush.

“Wynchester captures a unique, yet classic approach to Country Music, mixed with the familiar sounds of Southern and Classic rock.”
Mike Bray and John Konesky surely take their music seriously, but kindly with the wink of an eye. From classic uptempo barn burnin,’ truck drivin’ songs, as well as “tear in your beer” ballads, they leave no stone unturned. Wynchester has been surprising critics with their modern approach to classic songwriting; songs that tell tales, songs of heartbreak, and even some comedic numbers that will surely bring you back for another listen. It’s a memorable mixed bag of good times, time and time again.
At their live shows, Wynchester surely stands out amongst its peers. A sharp dressed high energy act that will keep your boots tappin’ till closing time. Influenced by Southern greats like Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers Band, as well as songwriters from Marty Robbins to Jimmy Webb, while tapping into the sense of humor inherent in acts such as Dr. Hook, Jerry Reed or Brad Paisley. As always, they plan to tour and make music as long as people care to listen, then again they’d probably do that regardless!
What does KG do when he’s not playing with the Greatest Band in the World? He assembles an otherworldly super-team of badass dudes to back him up in his own project, The Kyle Gass Band. Along with The D’s longtime electric guitarist, John Konesky, resident Sasquatch and guitarist/vocalist, Mike Bray, mythical bass legend, “Uncle Jazz” and percussion genius/international heart-throb Tim Spier, the rollicking gentlemanly ensemble traverses hill and dale to bring earth-shattering rock and roll to the wanting 100’s. If you’re lucky enough to catch this man-herd on the road, you’ll surely count it as one of your finest living days. If you’re less lucky (but still quite fortunate) to have only cast ears on the debut recording, then consider yourself nothing short of pregnant. 2 years off-and-on, and in between Tenacious D mega-tours, the accomplished men honed their sound and forged a master-work only craft-able by the deepest knowledge of a master. Men, women, children, domesticated house pets, earth roaming wild mammals, sea-dwelling creatures of the deep, insects, species yet unknown, gods and leaders, universal truths, and earthly lies; all lay wanting in subjugation to the new interstellar constant that is the Kyle Gass Band. Get the record today, throw on some headphones, and take the journey, friends, for you have something the band can never have… The ability to listen, with child-like wonder, to the magic of song, while having no earthly clue how to create such brilliance… Such is the albatross of genius.. Such are the chains of unparalleled skill… Such is the KGB.
Super-charged, future-driven RocknRoll from Chicago, steeped in the roots of Chuck Berry, The Kinks, MC5, AC/DC and The Stooges, The Kozmic Kicks are another leap forward in the not-so-quiet rebellion of rock n roll.
Some bands define themselves with style; others prefer to use relentless touring. Still others seek notoriety with the quality of songwriting and musicianship, or with on-stage acrobatics and off-stage antics. It is rarely that a band comes along that possesses a piece of each of these “defining qualities,” yet remains defined by something else altogether: Its work ethic. San Antonio’s The Heroine is one such band. Working towards lofty (but achievable) goals is a credo that each member of this hammer-swinging, five-piece rock ‘n’ roll juggernaut lives each of his days by (four of the band’s members are contractors, while one is an aircraft mechanic). Whether the band is on or off the road, The Heroine works hard, and works its listeners harder.

KASHMIR is a very entertaining show bringing only the best of LED ZEPPELIN to a family oriented event. KASHMIR seeks to re-create the experience of a 70’s Zeppelin show utilizing authentic vintage stage gear, costumes, and special effects, with great attention to detail in a non pretentious way.
But most importantly, KASHMIR does not take liberties on improving the music. Led Zeppelin should be played as it was using only the equipment of the era, and should be reproduced dead on with great respect and admiration. “It’s not about us, it’s about Led Zeppelin”.

“The Nocturnal Affair is the alternative/dark rock project headed by singer/songwriter Brendan Shane. The band’s crushing and melancholic musical style is an ode to dark rock and metal torchbearers like Type O Negative, HIM and Nine Inch Nails while capturing a uniquely haunting sound steeped in downtrodden melodies enveloped in the darkness behind the glow of the Las Vegas lights where Shane has called home.
The group has performed alongside a wide array of artists from heavy metal heavyweights like HELLYEAH, Asking Alexandria and Pop Evil, Industrial rockers My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and The 69 Eyes while also being accessible enough to share the stage with notable mainstream acts like 3 Doors Down and Black Stone Cherry.
Just a single dose of Dr. Feelgood’s show will cure an ailing party, corporate event, bar, club, or festival. Dr. Feelgood digs deep into the vast catalog of the 1980s by injecting new life into the timeless music. Avoiding the over-saturated cookie-cutter renditions from the decade’s “one-hit-wonders”, Dr. Feelgood focuses on the artists that have withstood the test of time. Whether rocking out to Tom Petty, or getting funky to Prince and the Revolution, Dr. Feelgood will provide the perfect atmosphere for a great event!
Fifteen years ago, if you heard about a new, young Ska/Reggae band, you’d be forgiven for thinking the crew played some variation of Third Wave Ska, the Reggae-tinged Punk popularized by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and others. But if you subscribe to the belief that music lovers often turn to more pure forms of music in times of societal uncertainty, The Six’s dedication to the earliest forms of Reggae and the authentic sound they come up with should be no surprise.
The horns on Licking River are top-notch, responsible for the best riffs on the release, while the bass provides deep Dub grooves, the guitarist shows off one of the best Reggae strum hands in the region, the drums are dynamic but (indeed) rock-steady and the organ trills and stabs are in line with what the pioneers had in mind when they came up with the sound.
Singer J Duckworth guides the Secret Six through the album with soulful vocals pushed forth from the bottom of his gut. He’s got the phrasing down and comes up with some great melodies throughout, but it’s the way he sells it that sets the band apart.
If you love Reggae’s originators and have a soft spot for Two Tone Ska, then meet your new favorite local band, The Newport Secret Six. (www.thesecretsix.net)

Formed in Providence, Rhode Island, MAKEOUT deliver high-energy fun pop-punk that plays to the back of the room. Original singer/guitarist Sam Boxold, guitarist Tyler Young, and drummer Scott Eckel landed a production deal with John Feldmann (blink-182, Good Charlotte) before rebranding themselves as MAKEOUT. Recording their debut album with Feldmann and, thanks to their producer’s connections, playing tour dates with their heroes, blink-182 followed by a stint on the Vans Warped Tour, their debut LP, The Good Life was met with rave reviews and garnered over 10 million streams. In January 2019, the band parted ways with Boxold but after an exhaustive search found a new frontman in Chicago based singer/songwriter, Kyle Dee. Adding bassist AJ Khah (ex-Sleep On It) they rounded out the new lineup and began work on their sophomore follow up due in 2020.

The Fleshtones are Peter Zaremba (vocals, harmonica, & organ), Keith Streng (guitar & vocals), Bill Milhizer (drums & vocals), and Ken Fox (bass & vocals). Based in Brooklyn, New York, the quartet’s origins lie just a few miles north in Queens, where in 1975 Streng and original bass player Marek Pakulski rented “The House,” as it was infamously known, and found instruments down in the basement. To quote Keith: “How and why The Fleshtones started was that there was a place to do it!” Countless “Blue Whale Bashes,” Lower East Side sightings, and an endless string of gigs and records later, The Fleshtones continue to record and perform with a wit, passion, and energy that few bands can top.

Barry J. Fontenot is a Louisiana-born, Chicago-based soul musician with a love of pushing boundaries and a flair for the dramatic. Raised in the “Deep Soul” and “Delta Blues” musical traditions, Barry’s vocal style brings to mind the strong, rich tenor notes of legendary singers such as Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. In his original compositions, however, Barry reveals the eclectic influences that have followed him throughout his musical journey—he strives, in his own words, to “write em’ like Jazz songs, play em’ like Rock songs, and sing em’ like Soul songs.”
Originally a Classical Tenor specializing in choral music, Barry decided to return to his musical roots in 2013, forming a Soul Band called “Barry Fontenot and the Hurricanes,” which performed mostly covers of the great Motown performers who had so inspired him in his youth. In 2014, while drunk and bleeding in Mexico, Barry wrote his first original song, “Desiree.” While the circumstances surrounding the song’s writing were less than glamourous, as Barry himself often explains (at-length) on stage, the experience of writing and performing original music was one that affected him to the extent that he now performs primarily his own songs, and has written upwards of three hours of performance material.
Upon moving to Chicago, Barry met The Fountains members, together they created a solid bond, smoothly complementing Barry’s voice and songs. Barry and The Fountains performing regularly in different venues and events around Chicagoland. Their debut single is about to be released soon.

Louisville based Oi/punk/rock band. No politics, just rock and roll.
Established in 2004 with Graham Goff and Shadwick Wilde (of the Quiet Hollers). During the prime age of the band and the first album, the lineup flourished to include Adam Buntain on Bass/Vox and Cody Nichols Drums/Vox.
50 years after the genre turned the music world upside-down, Grade 2 bring the raw power of old school punk to a new generation. Their second release on Tim Armstrong’s legendary Hellcat Records is a thumping 15 track tour de force melding the uncompromising ethos of punk with the howl of contemporary injustice, personal identity and frustrations of Gen-Z youth, authentically told by three lads with punk coursing through their veins.
Formed on their native Isle of Wight when they were just 14 years old, Jack Chatfield (guitar & vocals), Jacob Hull (drums) and Sid Ryan (bass & vocals) honed their craft covering punk pioneers before creating a sound uniquely theirs: ten years on, the eponymous ‘Grade 2’ is their magnus opus. From the complex rhythms and brutal two-note guitar of opening track ‘Judgement Day’, the record grabs by the scruff of the neck and never lets up. With a commitment to the cause, lead single ‘Doing Time’ is a thunderous hardcore punk track screaming “Spoon feed me corporate lies; I left that place with a noose to my neck.” Intertwined are upbeat bangers (‘Under the Streetlight’, ‘Celine’), classic pop-punk (‘Don’t Stand Alone’, ‘Fast Pace’), and savage old-school grit (‘Parasite’, ‘Gaslight’). The result is a bone-crunching 35-minutes that agitates, intoxicates and liberates in equal measure.
“Like everyone else, 2020 left us proper fucked off,” says frontman Sid Ryan. “Yet we were able to channel every ounce of that despair into every second of this record.”
“Returning to Ship Rec Studio resparked that magic dynamic” says guitarist Jack Chatfield. “When we’re in there I feel like we reach our full potential. Tim would offer tweaks and tips for some songs, while others he’d compliment as finished first time we played them.”
“We worked flat-out recording this record,” says drummer Jacob Hull, “but we never felt pressured, Tim keeping us in the zone to make the best tunes of our lives.”
Famed for blistering live performances and exceptional musicianship, the band have consolidated the essence of their live show in ‘Grade 2’. Tune in and turn up. Here’s a record to rattle your bones, stir your heart and have you singing till you’re hoarse like it’s the first day of punk.
The Code is a band from Pittsburgh PA
999 celebrated their first 40 years anniversary on 5th December 2016. The reason for their longevity is not airplay, massive publicity, hype or even a major recording deal but word of mouth and that “word of mouth” now extends to nearly every country on earth.
999 were first conceived in late 1976 when Nick Cash (vocals/guitar) and Guy Days (vocals/lead guitar), who were at school together, decided to form a group. Within a couple of months they had teamed up with Jon Watson (bass) and Pablo Labritain (drums) and 999 were officially born. Their first gig was at the Northampton Cricket Club in January 1977. Interest in the band was immediate and constant gigging around London brought with it critical acclaim and a hard core following of supporters from Southall, calling themselves “The Crew”. These ranks were soon swollen by the Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Munich, Vienna, Zagreb, Stockholm, Oslo, Berlin, New York, LA., Toronto, Philadelphia, and San Francisco “Crews” each proving as dedicated as the last.
The frenzy and raw energy of the early days were captured by their debut single “I’m Alive on the bands own Labritain label and sold well enough to become a minor hit. Next through their association with United Artists records the second and third singles, “Nasty Nasty” and the now classic “Emergency” were released both scaling the lower reaches of the charts and confirming 999 to be one of the major forces in the British New Wave Movement.
The first album titled simply “999” was released and was greeted with impressive sales and critical acclaim. Extensive touring took them throughout Britain and Europe where they now encountered full houses.
The second album “Separates” was released and immediately the single “Homicide” leapt straight into the UK top forty without any Radio airplay and was banned by the BBC and most radio stations.
Early 1979 saw the band embarking on their first U.S. tour, which was an achievement in itself, as they were still without a record deal in America at the time. Response to the band was ecstatic, all the venues being filled and import albums being sold out in a rush of enthusiasm. The band were immediately booked for a return trip.
Since leaving United Artists 999 have recorded another eleven albums. Jon Watson was replaced in 1986 on bass by Danny Palmer and subsequently by Arturo Bassick in 1991. To date the band have completed 15 U.S. tours, 101 London gigs, 36 UK tours and 24 European tours visiting Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Holland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Yugoslavia, Japan, Argentina and Brazil.
