Foot ox is an experimental and somewhat psychedelic folk band from Portland, Or. Originally formed in Tempe, AZ in 2007 . The music and lyrics inspired by dreams, deals with love, death, adventure, heartbreak and fear with indirect and abstract imagery. Unusual but subtle orchestration gives an impression of Intimacy even playing in front of large crowds. The sound swings from driving, upbeat full band, complex and rhythmic, to sparse, quiet emotional moments of vulnerability.
They get pretty sad but they try to stay rad. Lyrically ranging from self-pity to self-criticism and fluctuating from hard-hitting confessionals to tongue-in-cheek deconstructions. All while approaching influences not often seen within ‘anti-folk’, at points going into d-beat and blast beats.
The hiatus from regular band activity saw HUNTSMEN return to their roots as a band, writing on an acoustic guitar and leaning into the narrative storytelling found on their debut full length, American Scrap. An invitation from Roadburn festival in the Netherlands to perform American Scrap in full at the 2022 edition of the festival gave them cause to revisit the songs that saw the band strike out with an Americana-metal sound that has been woven throughout their body of work. A collaborative approach to the songwriting has lent itself well to blending the strengths of the individual band members, as well as allowing space for threads of their own personal stories to to make their way into the sonic tapestry of new tracks, The Dying Pines and Let The Buried Lie Forgotten. The rich instrumental layering and warm vocal harmonies are a vessel for conveying bleak themes of loss and existentialist contemplation. Once again, the evocative cover artwork has been created by drummer, Ray Knipe, complementing the organic sound of the EP, which was recorded at Electrical Audio/Hypercube studios by Sanford Parker, and mastered by Collin Jordan (The Boiler Room). Elements of the post-apocalyptic vibe of Mandala of Fear find their way into this new EP, but The Dying Pines sits outside of the story arc present on the band’s full lengths – a vignette that lets us know the heart of this band still beats strong, and offers a hint of what’s still to come.

In 2012, the high-powered bluegrass punk act Old & Dirty hit our scene. Since then, the group led by Pete Dio has put out some top-notch music and has performed an abundance of shows throughout the Midwest along the way.
Recently, the band announced a whole new lineup and have rebranded themselves as Pete Dio and the Old & Dirty. Currently, it’s Dio on guitar and vocals, Mikey Morton on guitar, John Warner on banjo, DJ Riley on bass, Felix Moxter on fiddle, and Carter Ryan on drums. That’s the full version, but Dio says they will also be performing in smaller two- and three-piece versions. He aims at using the full band for bigger shows while the stripped down version will be used for small intimate settings and possible touring.
“I guess you could say I have different incarnations of the group,” Dio said. “I’m trying to make this project as accessible as possible as I plan on playing my tail off.”

We have been playing Chicago south suburb clubs and northeastern Indiana for about 4 years and dedicate ourselves to bringing the music of Black Sabbath to true form with a twist – our female lead singer. Fans come to shows to see what this female singer can do as Ozzy and end up pleasantly surprised and entertained. Our aim is to put on a good show visually and musically – we play a wide range of Black Sabbath material spanning across the first 10 albums. We are mostly Ozzy era, but also have some Dio era tracks in our sets as well.

There is a sonic tension between rage and melancholy, the beautiful and the bleak, that finds resolution in the way the music reflects the mood of the lyrics. So too does the dynamic range of Lena’s distinct voice, with the subdued resonance of gentler songs beckoning the listener nearer to her commanding presence in aggressive songs.
Secret Shame first took shape when bassist Matthew met vocalist Lena through mutual friends in summer of 2016. Nathan, who had released the band’s first EP, later joined on drums, and not long after, Aster joined on guitar.
Secret Shame’s debut full-length, Dark Synthetics, received widespread critical acclaim with the single Calm being featured on The New York Time’s weekly playlist and the album landing on many album-of-the-year lists, including #77 on Bandcamp Daily and #1 on Post-Punk.com.

We are a group five-piece Hard Rock outfit with members in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Georgia. We are a loud, aggressive, in your face, rock band that praises loud amps, heavy riffs, and vintage gear. Bigger truly is always better in this band. We are currently with STB Records out of New York and have played many large rock/stoner rock/doom festivals throughout the country and most recently have become Orange Ambassadors. With two albums out in all formats and a third one on the way, we are looking to spread our roots out as far as they stretch, and are ready to be a force to be reckoned with in the heavy scene.
“Rifflord started out back in 2007 in the basement of a punk house where 8 people were living. We were all in punk/hardcore bands at the time, and began digging into the roots of heavy music with bands like Blue Cheer, Hawkwind, Deep Purple and of course Black Sabbath lighting the path for us. We soon began hunting down every vintage tube amp we could find to recreate that tone. It’s been 13 years since then, members have come and gone but the core remains the same: loud tube amps, heavy drums, and a loud hammond organ.” – Wyatt Bartleett
“Being rural midwest boys we were raised with a lot of country and rebelled by listening to heavy/hard rock and metal. Bands and artists like T. Rex, MC5, Sabbath, Motorhead, Hawkwind, Judas Priest, ZZ Top, Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred Mcdowell, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson formed us. When naming the band, our options for names were Kilowatt or RIFFLORD. Thankfully we chose the latter.” – Wyatt Bartlett
Stinking Lizaveta’s instrumental post-rock draws as much on Sabbathas it does on Sonic Youth or Slint. By combining a stoner/doom metal edge with jazz, the precision and repetition of math rock, and the blasting assault of early Black Flag, Stinking Lizaveta — their name is derived from a Dostoevsky character in The Brothers Karamazov — come on with a sound all their own.

Their third album, III, which includes Gloria Justin on violin and John Schenk on analog keyboards, was released on Fugazi member Joe Lally’s Tolotta Recordsin 2001. 2004 saw the release of Caught Between Worlds via At a Loss Recordings in the U.S. and Monotreme Records in U.K. and Europe, and in 2007 they issued their fifth studio long-player the hard-hitting Scream of the Iron Iconoclast, which saw the trio reuniting with Steve Albini. The adventurous Sacrifice and Bliss arrived in 2009, followed by the Translation Loss-issued 7th Direction in 2012, and Journey to the Underworld in 2017. ~ Charles Spano, Rovi

With “LAST CHANCE” (Fat Bank Music), Detroit-born songwriter Pat Smillie, has delivered an album built upon his open vision of soul, blues, and American roots music. The album showcases his ability to traverse a variety of genres including rock, blues, and soul, in a manner that is reminiscent of his earliest influences including Joe Cocker, Otis Redding, Delbert McClinton, and Detroit’s iconic soul rocker, Mitch Ryder. In addition, the album contains some of the strongest compositions of Smillie’s career – highlighting his gift for storytelling across an array of musical backdrops, including classic 50s-60s r&b, early Detroit rock & roll, West side Chicago blues, and soul-kissed Americana.
Produced by Motor City Josh (a.k.a. Josh Ford) and Pat Smillie, “LAST CHANCE” is an album whose charms slowly reveal themselves over repeated listenings. A rare document that captures the artist in creative bloom. Written and recorded entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, these songs are the glorious result of time well spent.
Audio Karate comprised childhood friends from Rosemead, CA: vocalist/guitarist Art Barrios, bassist/vocalist Justo Gonzalez, drummer Gabriel Camacho and guitarist Jason Camacho (those last two being cousins). They all bonded over a shared love of both ’80s skatepunk and ’70s metal, and in May 2002, released their debut of furiously catchy SoCal pop-punk via Kung Fu Records titled Space Camp. Tour dates with acts like the Ataris, Tsunami Bomb and the Vandals followed, as did a stretch on the 2004 Warped Tour. Audio Karate’s Warped appearance was well timed, coinciding with the June release of their matured (and very well-received) follow-up, Lady Melody, which was produced by Bill Stevenson (Descendents, ALL, etc). More touring was completed before the guys announced at year’s end that they would be taking a “vacation” for an undisclosed amount of time. Audio Karate resurfaced in the spring of 2006 with the notice that they were working on a new album, in addition to writing the score and soundtrack — music much different than their past efforts — for the Spanish language independent film, Maquillaje. In the meantime, Jason Camacho had also opened his own studio Lady Melody, named after the band’s 2004 album. ~ Corey Apar, Rovi
Every performance showcases Chicago’s finest and seasoned Blues Singers and Musicians. Each one is an established Chicago Blues Artist, and could easily carry a whole show on their own. However, by having them all together on the same stage it becomes a very special musical event.
Inspired by the Classic Blues Reviews of the 1950s & 1960s, The Chicago Blues SuperSession utilizes the same rhythm section (guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums) and then rotates the front singers. By changing styles and different rhythms the audience can enjoy an exciting and diverse performance. It’s like a complete Blues Festival all in one show.
The SuperSession has performed at the Ann Arbor Blues Festival, The Chicago Blues Festival, Milwaukee’s Big Barbeque, the Big Bear Blues Festival, The Chicago History Museum and many other venues all over the Midwest.
