MATHIEN

About Mathien—the nucleus of the band was formed at Southern Illinois University Carbondale around the magnetic personality of singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Mathien. Bassist Mike Schiff and drummer Aaron Bouslog were initially drawn to Mathien’s sharply observed lyrics and eclectic musical influences. After signing with Midwest Music Group, relocating to Chicago and releasing their debut “Hello Again” the band took to the road and became a formidable live act selling out venues in Chicago and throughout the Midwest.

MAUDLIN

Maudlin writes songs about the “human experience” and things that go “bump” in the night. Lead by David and Priscilla Priebe, the duo have a long history of contrasting the dark undertones of their music with vibrant and intense performances. Radio’s Barb Abney describes them as “the Pixies married Weezer and their kids had a Sunday Real Estate cover band.”
The group has been hailed by the fridge as long as they’ve been writing songs and have graced hundreds of stages including Summerfest, CMJ, MWMF, The UMS, Mpls Zombie Pub Crawl, the MN State Fair, First Avenue’s main room, Red Gorilla Festival, and a comical appearance at the 2008 Republican National Convention in their hometown of St. Paul. Both of the band’s commercial releases charted for weeks on CMJ stations all over the country, and the group has made countless radio and television appearances.
In the winter of 2014 the band welcomed drummer Whelan Keenan to the group and went into the studio to record a song to be released on an upcoming Donovan tribute album due out in October on Rock The Cause Records. Album will include contributions from Flaming Lips, Sharon Van Etten, etc… http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/flaming-lips-sharon-van-etten-to-cover-donovan-on-tribute-album-20150723

Maxilla Blue

MAXILLA BLUE

Led by the cue of Dj TouchNice, powered by the production of Aeon Grey and anchored by the vocal illustration of Asphate Woodhavet, the Des Moines based trio provides listeners with a dense, immovable, and often somber or “blue” bite of this reality as well as the next. Hailing from an often overlooked and undernourished locale, Maxilla’s creative approach has found it unnecessary to bend to the common trends and popular evolution of rap culture. As a result, the crew’s intepretation of music remains intact amidst failed fads, and followers of the work understand the natural encouragement to bend the enigmatic sound illustration to their own interpretations, adding to the timeless quality of each piece. Each member, an avid vinyl collector of over 10 years and dedicated practitioner of his respective craft, carries the innate desire to create, regardless of the recognition attached. This love affair with the art has resulted in multiple vinyl releases, side projects for the group, and independent works from Aeon Grey, including 12 in, 7in, compact cassettes, instrumental albums and digital efforts. MBC is most revered for charged live performances and original flavor embedded in homage to the classic 1 producer, 1 emcee, 1 Dj equation. The sum was conceived in 2006 and released it’s first full length and self-titled album, in April of 2008 on the home grown Central Standard Records (www.central-standard.com). M.B.C has steadily crushed shows throughout the midwest and mountain regions, including coordinating performances with, and opening for such acts as Typical Cats, Qwel & Maker, Qwazaar, Ghostface Killah, Brother Ali, Mr Lif, Toki Wright, Naughty By Nature, Eyedea and Abilities, Scarub of Living Legends, Sick Jacken, Das Efx, Fashawn, etc, and in every appearance rocks real heads off necks. Maxilla Blue Vol 3 is off to press, with a retail release date set for 2.28.12, and the Des Moines vinyl & CD release show set for Friday, March 2nd @ The Vaudeville Mews. The Maxilla crew, along with a few other like-minded individuals recently and feverishly tossed a few dope vibe and quick hit sessions into another BumRap edition, Median Risers, (5.24.11). If you’re instate, check ZZZ, and other record stores in Des Moines for Maxilla Blue and BumRap material. If you’re local and we’ve sold out somewhere, or you have a record store referral for us, let us know..MBC is independent, and spaces out often and could use the tip-off. Check Co-Op and Ragged Records in Quad Cities area, both in Iowa and Illinois, the Exclusive Company in Osh Kosh, WI, www.hhv.de for all UK and Europe heads and more stores soon. www.galapagos4.com, Amazon and Itunes, Zune, www.fifthelementonline.com all availablle now… other channels coming soon..

MDC

MDC (Millions of Dead Cops) is an American punk rock band formed in Austin, Texas in 1981. The band was subsequently based in San Francisco, California, and are currently based in Portland, Oregon. Originally formed as The Stains before changing their name, the band also changed their name to a different initialism of MDC with every new record released. They play fast hardcore punk music espousing far-left sociopolitical ideals, with singer Dave Dictor expressing his animal rights, gay rights, transgender rights, pro-racial equality and anti-capitalist convictions.

MDC eventually released material through ex-Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra’s independent Alternative Tentacleslabel. In the 1990s, Dictor published editorials for the internationally distributed fanzine Maximumrocknroll. MDC’s initial run ended in 1995, and the band spent five years on hiatus before Dictor returned in 2000 with new band members.

Making Movies

MAKING MOVIES

Making Movies is a psychedelic Panamanian band that makes American music with an asterisk: because Making Movies’ sound encompasses the entirety of the Americas. It’s through this broader perspective that Making Movies crunches classic rock into Latin American rhythms — African-derived percussion and styles like rumba, merengue, mambo and cumbia — in a way that feels oddly familiar, yet delivers the invigorating chills of hearing something singularly special.

Over the course of their career, the quartet has turned heads as a Tiny Desk newcomer (with “A La Deriva”), a voice for immigrant rights (with “I Am Another You” which reached #3 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Album chart), and as a co-writer alongside salsa icon Rubén Blades (with Latin GRAMMY nominated song “No Te Calles”).

Making Movies has toured extensively, appearing with the likes of Arcade Fire, Rubén Blades, Los Lobos, Hurray For the Riff Raff, Bomba Estereo, Galactic, Flor De Toloache, and Thievery Corporation. The band’s fourth album XOPA was just released on L.A.-based label Cósmica Artists.

Malas

MALAS

Forged in 2000, MALAS have been conjuring their brand of skull thrashing METAL. Members from the 1990’s bands MALDICION & LORD BLASPHEMER have maintained the bone crushing Chicago sound influenced by CELTIC FROST, SLAYER, SODOM, etc. “Their live show is an assault to the senses. Blasting & thrashing a fierce attack of death metal”. In 2004, they released a three song sampler which was the catalyst to the full length cd titled “Conquest.” The 2005 release was done with three Indie labels, Sempiternal Productions, Utterly Somber Creations and MALAS’ own Maldito Records. The second demo titled “King of Thieves” was released in 2010. Our second full length release, “Path to Holocaust”, blisters its way through Hell and back. This record was made possible by the efforts of Utterly Somber Creations and Maldito Records. “Path to Holocaust” is available now! We invite you to check out our live shows, music and website. If you would like to book the band for a show or purchase a cd or shirts, please contact us. email: maldicion@msn.com

MAR CARIBE

MARA

We are a metal/post-hardcore/experimental band from the southside of Chicago. Formed in the summer of 08, with Fern, Walter, Stevematt and Jimmy. Recently Stevematt left the band so we then added Guerro to take over. Then we decided to add Paco to do keys/synths. With a new line up we are pretty much branching off into other genres. Expect something way different but still brutal!!

MARDUK

An unswerving commitment to blasphemy and extremity combined with a relentless touring schedule and a steady stream of recordings has helped establish Sweden’s Marduk as one of the better-known bands on the Scandinavian black metal scene. They began as more of a standard death metal band with a black metal influence, but have come to be known for their style of extreme black metal, which tends to focus on themes of warfare and anti-Christian sentiment and is characterized by relentlessly fast drumming and blurred walls of guitar.

MARGARET MURPHY

Currently a senior at Chicago State University majoring in Jazz Piano and Classical Voice, Margaret, affectionately known as “M & M” to her musical family, has been singing professionally throughout the United States and Europe for over twenty-five years. She developed her unique vocal style and showmanship under the tutelage of world renown tenor saxophonist Von Freeman with whom she shared the stage at the Taste of Chicago, The Chicago Jazz Festival, Andy’s, Pete Miller’s, Pops, The Jazz Showcase, and many other venues.
