POCKETFULOFSCOUNDREL

Pocketfulofscoundrel’s Josh Rowe is a Chicago based singer-songwriter. Growing up in Lowell, Indiana, Josh became interested in playing music after being inspired by Paul McCartney’s bassline in the song Hey Bulldog, by the Beatles. After playing the bass guitar for years, Josh picked up his dad’s old, beat-up Harmony acoustic guitar, and began to learn that instrument. Throughout the years, Josh has written quite a number of songs, from cute and quirky (The Mustache Song) to deep and heartfelt (Chicago, Make Me Weep). Josh has been influenced greatly by Bob Dylan, Elliott Smith, and Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s, just to name a few. His music is very lyrically driven and comes from the heart (and the half empty bottle of Walgreens brand wine sitting in front of him).

ARC IMPULSE

Arc Impulse combines its members’ eclectic musical backgrounds to create a force of orchestra and synth video game rock. If you think you’ve seen them before, you probably have. From 2004-2010, they played throughout the United States as the Spoony Bards, sharing billboard space with the likes of The Protomen, Steve Conte, Super 8 Bit Brothers, Peelander Z, Lemon Demon, and Video Games Live. But it was time for a change. You may have seen them before, but you haven’t heard them before. Prepare for battle.

ALAR WAVE

Chicago-land natives Gerard Pannekoek and Alex Sisto have been friends since elementary school, but it took them until after college to decide they wanted to pursue music together. Looking around at the current state of affairs and seeing a world simultaneously expanding and contrasting, perhaps it was who Mick Jagger said it best, when he sang, “What can a poor boy do, except to sing for a rock’n’roll band?” And so in 2012, the two of them, bound by a similar taste in music and a strong desire to promote social change, started writing music. By the end of the winter, having spent most of it holed up in their Wicker Park apartment, they emerged with an album’s worth of material and no intention of stopping there.

At its core, the music is most closely related to rock, but elements of pop, folk, and indie are undeniably prevalent as well, giving them a sound one might describe as unexpectedly familiar. The two share lead vocals, and their progressive-minded lyrics more often than not find themselves supported by a backing voice or harmony, keeping the music melodic, upbeat, and full. Despite the absence of a drummer (for now, anyway), their music suffers no lack of energy, and in fact, relies heavily on rhythm to carry the songs and keep the listeners engaged. But, as with all music, you really just have to listen to it.

THE CUTTHROAT DRIFTERS

The Cutthroat Drifters are quickly building a grassroots following with their own brand of classic rock and roll. Look for their first recordings in April, and catch one of their upcoming shows.

2013 saw The Heard break onto the national festival scene with sets at Chicago’s Northcoast Music Festival and String Cheese’s Incident’s Suwanee Hulaween festival in Florida. The band also performed at two of Chicago’s largest neighborhood festivals, Taste of Randolph Street and Boulevard Fest.

The Heard’s music features powerful horn melodies delivered with precision and swagger by Adam Gross (trombone), Lucas Ellman (saxophone), and Parris Fleming (trumpet), the driving rhythm guitar playing of Taras Horalewskyj, tasteful keyboard work by Neal O’Hara, and a slamming foundation provided by bassist Mike Starr and drummer PJ Howard.

APOLLO HOUSE

Formed in 2011, at Columbia College, Chicago rock band Apollo House has been compared to the Black Keys, Led Zepplin, the Black Crowes, Rival Sons, and numerous other bands that can be described as “old fashioned rock ‘n roll.” Though the band has embraced every single one of these acts, Apollo House focuses their attention on three things: heavy riffs, heavy soul, and heavy rock n’ roll.

According to singer Joe Korbee, “The band was formed to be true to the classic idea of rock n roll…” This includes blues laden guitars, heavy drums, and “honest lyrics through a soulful voice.” It’s this take on classic rock that will often take audiences by surprise, not expecting to witness such a true tribute to classic blues and rock music. It’s with this that the band hopes to give back to music what went missing in an industry where numbers always seem to overshadow talent. However, Apollo House has still managed to create and play music that exceeds traditional rock n’ roll standards. It’s the homage to classic rock music that intrigues people to Apollo House, but the modern distinction is what makes people stay.

This past August, Apollo House recorded and released their self titled EP and continues to tour and perform as much as possible. They continue to perform the show and festival circuit this upcoming spring and summer. Most recently, Apollo House recorded a release show with JBTV which will be released/aired in the coming months.

ANSWER FOR AN ARROW

Answer For An Arrow was formed in Whitewater, Wisconsin in November of 2011 by Vince Ragusca and brothers Brandon and Tyler Marshall. The band was formed due to similar music tastes, and immediately began to write songs. Answer For An Arrow began writing numerous songs after that, one of them became known as Shuttle 46 (the first ever released track by the band) and the band subsequently put it up to hear. Since then, the band is scheduled to play their first show at the 2012 Chicago Battle Of The Bands. In 2012, Alex Merrit joined the project as Answer For An Arrow’s drummer and is playing at their first upcoming show.

SAINT TRAGEDY

Saint Tragedy has slowly been evolving since it’s conception in 2008. With only 2 founding members (Wayne Wiginton-Vocals, Zack Gough-Guitars) the band was off to a less then eventful start. Over the months finding other dedicated musicians proved to be a challenge. For a short time Travis Polso took the spot for guitars while Zack moved to the bass. Due to a dislike with him, Travis was quickly booted from the line-up. It was soon after that Wayne called on his old friend Nick Martin to pick up the bass… .. Nick immediately took to the project as he was not only far more willing to learn than Polso but was also significantly less prone to random fits douche-baggary. Only missing a drummer Nick suggested that his friend Tyler Miller join the group. Immediately the group was impressed with his ability and he joined the group. As time went on, Nick had announced his departure from the band due to him leaving for college soon. So as Zack stated he would fill in for bass. .. .. Later in time, the band lost contact with Tyler, as he was too busy with working and going into college himself. Needing a guitarist, the band looked not too long, and came across a dude named Tony. Now Tony would’ve been starting with us earlier, but due to an accident on a machine with his hand, he was out for a short while, but as of now Tony is up and ready to take to this project and begin writing with us! .. .. Ladies and Gentleman we can proudly say Saint Tragedy as found themselves a drummer! Over the last few months we’ve been playing without a drummer and as of now we’d like for you to give a warm welcome to Sam Kavanaugh. .. .. In August 2010 the band had some recent lineup changes occur. With the addition of Sid Serbedzija on guitar in June, the band’s sound is now a whole lot fuller, and with Sid taking the guitar spot because of one more recent lineup change with the departure of Tony in August, the band is starting to sail quite nicely again. .. .. It is now November 2010, ST has yet another new addition to the band, as we welcome Luke Stahl in on guitars with Sid. .. .. Saint Tragedy is looking to continue working on their music as time goes on, hopefully to give you the fans something you will enjoy. Look for new heavy tunes coming in the near future! Thank You. .. .. – Wayne, Sid, Zack, Sam .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ……

With the help of God, friends and family, James Robinson (lead vocals) and Rob Rathunde (drums) started Silent Redemption with nothing more than a few song ideas and a vision of something different. Their goal was to form a band with lasting influence and a sound that is unmistakable.

TATTOO THE DEVIL

Tattoo the Devil is a progressive metal sextet from Chicago, IL and makes it’s mark by not being held to one rock or pop genre very easily. The band started as a project to write great sounding accessible progressive rock music without the confines of a production team and what normally belongs on the radio. It has been said to have reminisce of 70s prog bands with modern heavy metal grit and backbone. Fronted by amazing vocal talent, well placed guitar and piano melodies atop a bittersweet and slightly creepy overall feeling, Tattoo the Devil has it’s own new breed of rock music.

OEDIPUS

Welcome to the return of a rock n roll intelligentsia. A decade ago, bassist/singer Jeremy Haffner founded popular Downtown LA art gallery/event space Hangar 1018; where he created a thriving crossover scene between modern art and live music. This led to relationships between Oedipus and such acclaimed and high profile artists as Bob Dob, Seamus Conley, and Tim Peterson; who respectively provided original cover artwork for the band’s two independent releases, 2006’s “Humbility,” 2008’s “Covetous” and a self-titled European release out in October 2010 on MyMusic Records. Together with guitarist Stephen Cohen, who formed the band with Haffner as young teens; and Midwest ex-pat Keith Larsen on drums who joined in 2004, they managed to accomplish an impressive list of feats for an unsigned band. Oedipus has recorded and self-released three full length albums and two EPs; they’ve self-booked and promoted several U.S. tours; played in support of Capitol Records artist Hurt, DreamWorks artist The Apex Theory, Guitar Player Magazine “cover artist” Rafael Moreira, most recently rocked shows with Warner Bros./Sire Records artist Foxy Shazam.

DEADMANS WAKE

DMW is a five-piece music machine with JP Soule and Josh Barker trading leads and rhythms on the front line. Recently seen opening for In This Moment, with their debut album “It Comes To This” flying off the shelves and a tour in the works, DEADMANSWAKE is about to show the world what the Chicago music scene really has to offer.

NASUM

If things were different, if Mieszko hadn’t died, Nasum would have celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2012, believe it or not. Therefore, and after long deliberation and scrutiny, we have decided that it’s now or never: Nasum will do a handful of shows and festival gigs around the world in 2012 – to celebrate our anniversary, say a final goodbye to the fans and Mieszko. No cheesy reunion, no new albums, no epitaph for Mieszko. We will play only a few cities and festivals in a limited number of disruptive, unruly concerts. It will be a total blast, and we aim to go out hard. Just you wait.

BRUTAL TRUTH

It is doubtful the most extreme end of the musical spectrum has ever possessed such a transfixing dichotomy as BRUTAL TRUTH. The band progressed with boundless enthusiasm through the primal fury of traditional grindcore and hardcore punk. They attacked suffocating city life on the edge of the 21st century and its media noise overload with the bare-knuckled forcefulness of passion, conviction and a… simple love for playing music. They created chaos with a surgical precision and finesse unmatched by their peers.

PARASYTIC

Face ripping and riff driven, “Poison Minds” pushes Parasytic to the forefront of Richmond’s underground. Featuring members of Alabama Thunderpussy, Hail!Hornet and Cannabis Corpse, these Virginia vets chug crust and piss metal. Any patch wearing fans of Tragedy, Municipal Waste and Victims should do themselves a favor and put down their PBR to blast this shit! less.

TRAGEDY

The band and many of its contemporaries, such as From Ashes Rise, Severed Head of State and Remains of the Day, have created a recognizable sound inside the crust punk genre.

WARTORN

Since 2004, WARTORN has assaulted humans live across thirteen countries in North America and Europe and released an arsenal of recordings on Profane Existence, Crimes Against Humanity and more before hooking up with Southern Lord, who released the band’s brutal Iconic Nightmare in January. Keeping up their raging tradition of pissed-off socio-political crustpunk/hardcore in the realm of Victims, Disfear, Words That Burn and labelmates Wolfbrigade and From Ashes Rise, Iconic Nightmare brandishes WARTORN’s most powerful warcries and energetic attacks to date.

To date they’ve released a one sided 12” on Emma Navajas (2007) and 7” on Stonehenge (2010).

THE AGGROLITES

The Aggrolites are more than a band they are a movement unto themselves. They carry a banner – one created with their own hands. This banner reads, “Dirty Reggae,” and represents their signature fusion of Reggae, soul, grit and determination. For seven magnificent years, this dirty Reggae bunch has rolled from city to city, across the pond and up main street USA. THE NEW FACE OF SOUL

Maurice Mahon (CEO & Founder of New Face Of Soul) is a Chicago original and is certainly not a newcomer to the music business. Born on the city’s west- side, he entered the music scene by winning the first “Chicago Idol” contest hosted by Fox Television and Clear Channel Radio. By earning the 1 st place trophy he quickly attracted the interest of Chicago’s most influential members of the entertainment industry. He was the opening act for an event sponsored by The Delfonics, Ray Goodman and Brown and The Emotions, which he also won the first prize trophy. His top-notch singing and acting skills gained him a role in numerous stage plays and performances with Tyler Perry. Since then he has established himself as a powerful presence in entertainment circles throughout the Chicagoland area. His reputation quickly reached the production staff of R. Kelly, and Mr. Kelly himself reached out Mr. Mahon and contracted him to perform on a world-wide tour. Maurice Mahon is also on numerous songs with R. Kelly including a track with Kelly Price entitled “3-Way Caller” on R. Kelly’s “Happy People” cd. With his sleek smooth tone, Maurice Mahon has established himself as an elite artist, and he is continuously making his presence loved by everyone who comes to see him. In addition to Maurice Mahon’s continuous work with artists such as R Kelly, Tyler Perry and Kelly Price he has also worked with many of the industry’s greatest entertainers: John P. Key, Kim Burrell, Angie Stone, Christopher Williams, Dave Hollister, Angela Martin are just to name a few. As previously mentioned, Mr. Mahon is no stranger to the theatre either. With his latest production that just toured the nation, Issues “We All Got Em!” Written and produced by Laterras R. Whitfield, the hit play packed theatres from state to state, and Mahon pleased the crowd once more, capitalizing on each male character. His skill for acting was another way of displaying his many talents that revolved around music. Maurice Mahon has a modern and entertaining stage presence. He certainly has established himself as a vocalist to be recognized.

BAD SNEAKERS ORCHESTRA

WE…are a 15 piece tribute band (based in Chicago) featuring the music of Steely Dan…

VESICANT

Vesicant (formerly: Attack Imminent) started in the Summer of 2009, after a name change and a few lineup changes the band is now a three piece. We are a raging concoction of Old School Death Metal: (Death, Obituary, Cancer, Autopsy ect.) and raw aggresive Thrash Metal: (Sadus, Exodus, Possessed, Morbid Saint ect.)

PAUL CARY BAND

Former front man for In the Red recording artists The Horrors, Paul Cary is back with a new lineup and a new set of haunting melodies. Following a split 7″ with Thee Oh Sees, his first solo LP – Ghost of a Man (Stankhouse) – has been met with critical acclaim. Featuring Johnathan Crawford on drums and Toby Summerfield on double bass, Ghost of a Man feels like a ride through the dark depths of a deep Iowa night in a ’57 Chevy. Paul is truly an old soul, creating timeless music for these modern times.

311 “BLUE”

The album, often referred to as “The Blue Album”, was released July 25, 1995. The album contained three successful singles, “Don’t Stay Home”, “All Mixed Up”, and “Down”, resulting in the band’s mainstream breakthrough. It has been certified triple platinum with sales over three million albums. The album, unlike the first two, was recorded live, with no instrumental over-dubs. This album is home to some of their most relaxed music (“Purpose”) and also some of their hardest-hitting (“Hive”, “Brodels”). It is also the first album to not feature heavy slap bass, with the only appearance being in a small segment of “Misdirected Hostility”.

AUTUMN OWLS

“Dublin Ireland’s Autumn Owls chose Chicago as the location for seminal producer Brian Deck to produce their debut lp, Between Buildings, Toward The Sea. Which is fitting considering their major inspirations include Chicago luminary artists Wilco and Calfione. Featuring deconstructed folk and elements of post and indie, Autumn Owls are unequivocally distinct.”

LIKE PIONEERS

“Like Pioneers preview songs off their new lp, Oh, Magic, due out May 22 on Abandoned Love Records. Frenetic, multi-vocalist indie rock that builds up and shreds apart.”

BRONTOSAURUS

There might not be a duo these days – in Chicago or elsewhere – making as big of a noise as Brontosaurus. The pair of Nicholas Kelley and Nicholas Papaleo formed Brontosaurus as an outlet for their often pretty, often eerie powerful pop constructions. Drawing inspiration from a variety of sources as well as their varied musical upbringing (classical/indie rock/metal/prog), Brontosaurus performs their songs using all 8 limbs, often at the same time, as well as intertwining their distinct voices to create a unique and and entertaining live experience. Brontosaurus’ debut LP, Cold Comes To Claim, released in 2011 on the revered Chicago label Plus Tape owes as much to the sound and feel of Tin Pan Alley as it does to the Pacific Northwest of the late nineties. Cold Comes To Claim runs the gamut – from sweeping grandeur to math-induced freak-outs. The duo has been touring throughout the U.S. in support of Cold Comes To Claim and has shared the stage with Maps & Atlases, Suuns, Des Ark, Maserati, Owen, The Pass and A Lull to name a few.

LOCOS POR JUANA

Many have tried to define their style, the L.A. Times calls Locos por Juana “a funky, pan-Latin amalgam,” and referenced their “pulling listeners into a reverse Gulf Stream churning through the Straits of Florida south to Jamaica, Venezuela and Colombia, and over to Puerto Rico.” Miami New Times has regaled their 2008 American Grammy nominated release, La Verdad (Universal Music) as “the truth of a new multicultural, cosmopolitan generation, played out in the music that represents their cross-cultural connections.” and The Miami Herald dubbed them “Miami’s beloved Latin-Reggae-Hip-Hop mashup master.”

DAVID WAY

“Sensational” is the term that is synonymous with the name David Way; one of OneFLO Entertainment’s leading men. As an extraordinary vocalist, songwriter, dancer, rapper, arranger, actor and producer; David Way undoubtedly has the music industry wondering, “What can’t he do?” He is more than a quadruple threat, which transcends what the industry is looking for. David Way is definitely a breath of fresh air. Unlike much of today’s insipid Pop artists, his music is Pop meets R&B, with a twist of Rock and Hip Hop. Contrary to what many may say, David Way can tackle many different genres with a sound so explosive it will leave you wondering, “Who is this guy?”

THICK AS THIEVES

Thick as Thieves is on the cutting edge of the ever changing musical spectrum, bringing each members unique taste and stylings to the stage. From Nas and Tupac to Elton John and One Republic, Thick as Thieves exists harmoniously within musical contradictions. Each song is a unique opportunity for an audience member to explore various musical genres seamlessly, each song flowing between the other in a fresh and gratifying way. Up-tempo and honest, the lyrics and melodies allow the band to share intimate moments with the audience, engaging each listener with passionate performances and energetic sets.

PENNAL JOHNSON

PJ is a Bassist, writer & entrepreneur from Chicago’s West Side. PJ began playing bass guitar at the age of 8 years old. His cousin bought a bass guitar and a keyboard for his son to play. He did not take to it and passed it on to PJ. While PJ was practicing with his cousins, PJ realized that he could play by ear. This was the beginning of a beautiful thing for PJ.

While PJ was attending Hugh Manley High School in Chicago, he learned to read music and to go on and sharpen his bass playing skills. In his sophomore year PJ was selected to be a part of Manley’s Jazz band. From there PJ was selected to be the bass player for The Chicago All-City Jazz Band from 1984 to 1987. During this time PJ received numerous awards which include “The Outstanding Soloist Award” at the Midwest Jazz Festival and “Outstanding Musician of the Year” from All City Jazz Band of Chicago.

After High school PJ started playing professionally around the Chicago area and Gospel recording artist Rev. Jessy Dixon approached me and asked me to become the full-time bass player for him and his choir. It was Rev. Dixon, who taught PJ showmanship and how to be a professional musician. This position provided PJ with the opportunity to perform with the talents of Andre and Sandra Crouch, Kurt Carr and Abraham Laboriel.

Currently PJ working with his new project “PJ & Soul” and just finished a CD to be release in November 2013. PJ also is touring the USA and abroad with Rodney Sir Nose Trotter as Bass Player and Musical Director. When not touring PJ is doing clinics and studio sessions.

PJ’s goal is to enjoy Life simply to have fun!
