We are a progressive metal band from Chicago, IL, and have been making albums since 2011. Founded by Austin Peters (guitar), the current line-up consists of Phil Kalas (bass), Ken Stebliy (guitar), Luke Angle (drums) and Kyle Kunkler (synths). Our newest record, The Return of Inertia 2.0, is a follow up to our 2021 release (A Vast Field of Silence) and takes the listener on an exciting rediscovery of the music that put our band on the map. To call Toronto’s déVah quartet a ‘string quartet’ would be a boldface lie. YAMAHA Artists since 2011 and D’Addario Artists since 2013, déVah is comprised of Emily on electric violin, Sharon and Moira on electric 5-string violin/viola hybrids, and Liza on electric cello.

Often accompanying them are a small roster of excellent session drummers who add modern breakbeat and metal beats. déVah invents a rich texture of sound utilizing various non-acoustic modifying tools creating different tones and dimensions to music. Void of a stereotypical mold, déVah is continuously evolving and recreating itself, with hopes of innovating the quartet world through electric string creativity.

In June 2013, déVah released their much anticipated eponymous debut album. Produced by prog rock heavyweight Robert Berry, their genre has also been labeled everything from indie rock to alt pop. Whatever the style, the music is high-energy artistry performed with virtuosic ability.

The band has been featured in the UK Magazine ‘PROG’, and performed for Toronto’s 2015 Pan Am Games Countdown Launch, Vancouver’s Alternative Fashion Week, ISES, and aired on radio across North America.

Sarah Longfield formed The Fine Constant when she begin performing her solo experimental progressive metal material in a live setting.
