Reddit End of the Year Holiday Party - Reggies Chicago

Come and celebrate another great year with the Chicago reddit community! This will be an 17+ event, so those under 21 can still come out, and there will be a $10 cover charge. There will be a full bar available for those over 21. You can get there easily via the red line. The venue is just over a block away from the Cermack Red line stop. The party starts at 8:30pm and will end sometime around 1:30 am.

Because our parties have been so amazing in the past, we have a documentary film maker coming up from New Orleans to chronicle the event. You can be on camera and interviewed if you’d like, but it won’t be required. Let’s make this event the biggest and best one yet!

We’ll be doing another optional white elephant gift exchange. (Please keep in mind that there will be people under 21 in attendance when selecting your gift.)

Chicago based country folk and bluegrass band that performs their own original songs mixed with traditional covers.

The seeds to aboveandbelow have been sewn a few years back when Joe and Eric’s former band, The Memories, was winding down. Joe embarked on a, still, successful solo project, while Eric went on to play in other bands.

Those two have played together in various forms, and have had great luck in working together. They were always trying to figure out a way to work together more.

Fast forward to 2011 when Eric met Melanie while playing together in the shoegaze inspired bliss.city.east.

As bliss.city.east went on hiatus, Eric and Melanie still wanted to play some more. Eric contacted Joe about starting a project again. They all got together to jam, and things clicked. They began writing songs, and things were good.

BLACK UMBRELLA BRIGADE

The sarcastic nature of the name alone says it all. Should you ever drunkenly stumble upon them at a live gig, in the Windy City or abroad, you’re certain to be startled, bewildered, amused. And you’ll probably want to dance, too. Singer-songwriter Zonada hand-picked the raucous BUB to help assemble the patchwork of eclectic genres that compose the project’s versatile sound, from klezmer to swing to German beerhall-style sing along. If you’re lucky enough to see the full band in action, if nothing else, you’ll find a whole new appreciation for the tuba.

FREAKS FOR GEEKS

From the ashes of Chicago funk-rock group, May Queen, rises Freaks for Geeks. An active tug of war between hip-hop and good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll, Freaks for Geeks aim to embody two distinct musical personas. After spending the better part of two years writing and shaping their dichotomous sound, Freaks has released two EPs that are a patchwork of popular culture. While referencing everything from “The Shining” and “The Invisible Man” to “The Wolfman” and “Dexter”, Freaks uses their unique take on hip-hop fronted rock and roll to show you two sides of the same musical coin.
