Gypsi Fari is one of the hottest reggae bands to emerge from the Chicago reggae scene. Formed in 1977, Gypsi Fari was the first Reggae band in the midwest. As close friends of Bob Marley and The Wailers, Gypsi Fari travelled and recorded with them at Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, Jamaica, receiving the kind of acclaim in Jamaica usually reserved for only the best “Home Grown” bands.
Gypsi Fari has toured with top-flight bands such as: Steel Pulse, Third World, Culture, Burning Spear, Gil Scott Heron, and Survivor.
In 1980, Gypsi Fari performed at Third World’s Zince Fence Theater in Kingston, Jamaica where they received the Jamaican Peace Award.
Today, Gypsi Fari is as creative, strong and positive as ever, bringing forth new music and positive lyrics and appealing to reggae fans around the world, while continuing to spread their message of Love and Unity. Gypsi recently adopted four new members into the band. With new members, fresh ideas, and various inspirations Gypsi hopes to incorporate new styles into their already, crowd pleasing performances.
