SWINGIN' UTTERSWebsite
Originally formed in the late '80s, the Swingin' Utters brought their own brand of aggressive music to the growing Bay Area punk scene. As well as being classed as a street punk band reminiscent of British '70s bands, Swingin' Utters have increasingly shown themselves to be influenced by traditional American country and folk, as well as Irish and Reggae. Soon the Swingin' Utters established their position as the West Coast's most dependable purveyors of gimmick-free punk. The genre is all about nonconformity and youthful aggression and rebelling against all things corporate. Without straying from their proletariat roots and blue-collar attitude, the Utters managed to maintain a nearly impossible level of respect from a culture that generally despises any shifts toward mainstream popularity. Swingin' Utters seem ready to defy the usual aging process that forces most punk bands to become little more than musical points of reference.

The Outburstacolypse has begun!
A WILHELM SCREAMWebsiteListen
How does one gauge the success of a band pushing the envelope of a genre that receives little to no credit by the mainstream media? In the case of A Wilhelm Scream, the answer is "Who cares?" – As a band playing punk rock for over a decade, original members Trevor Reilly, Nuno Pereira and Nick Angelini haven't focused on success, image or whatever bandwagon a group can jump on to get their music into the ears of listeners: It's the ideal of music from an honest place, playing to the kids who want to hear more than a simple love song, or want an opinion rammed down their throats.

THE STEEPWATER BAND
Website
The Steepwater Band’s latest Single “THE STARS LOOK GOOD TONIGHT” is an optimistic song in celebration of change and hope. The infectious feel-good tune, written & produced by The Steepwater Band, was recorded on a quick weekend session at Engine Studios, in their hometown of Chicago. Once the song was mixed (along with b-side My Back Pocket), the band knew they had something special. “We just didn't want to wait for a full-length record for people to hear these songs, so we decided just to release a single...the way the Stones or Beatles used to.” bassist Tod Bowers elaborated.
THE NADAS (IA)
Website
Des Moines rockers The Nadas found out when they set out last January to record their seventh LP, Almanac, virtually live. The rules were simple: the band would write, record and release one song a month all year. What’s more, every step of the process would be streamed live on the band's website and with unprecedented access to the creative process; fans were allowed to become an integral part of this album. By joining the band’s web-based Almanac Project, fans could monitor their blog and read the band’s project journal. Comments and criticisms on everything from lyrics to instruments were welcomed and even, in a few choice cases, incorporated into The Nadas’ music. In September of 2009, select fans that had joined the Almanac Project were extended an exclusive invitation to a special songwriting session arranged to write that month’s addition to this most unique album.

QWEL & MAKER
Website
Hailed by many as one of the most skilled and innovative lyricist since hip hop's conception, Qwel is not your average ambiguous applause monger. Seasoned within Chicago's unrelenting battle circuit, Qwel found his niche among his soon to be crew at University of Chicago's WHPK Wednesday night rap show. The show, a staple in Chicago underground history, was then hosted by DJ Natural and Kid Knish. There he would meet both Denizen Kane and Qwazaar and soon after they would form Typical Cats. The project that they shortly after released, would instantly gain both national and international acclaim. When Qwel and Maker first discussed the possibility of collaborating on the first of the four horsemen/seasons albums neither one of them could have fully known exactly what they were unleashing on the underground hip hop world. With Makers rare and completely unprecedented production style, Qwel saw an opportunity to return to true school ripping it with the proper canvas to topple topics that the cornier, true school emcees wouldn't dare. With a much more up beat and banging approach to the songs Qwel and Maker dropped one of the greatest underground hip hop albums of all time, "The Harvest".

THE TOSSERSWebsite
Coming from the predominantly Irish neighborhoods of South-Side Chicago, the Tossers have been expanding the boundaries of contemporary Irish music since the early '90s. The band chose their name for its derogatory meaning of throw away. The term dates back to Shakespeare and depending on who you ask it also means commode, drunk or the bunk British currency the Irish rejected after their independence in the 1920s.
Although their name may be irreverent, their music certainly is not. The heart of their distinct sound is derived through the melding of traditional Irish and Punk Rock roots. Combining traditional instrumentation of mandolin, fiddle, tin whistle and banjo with amphetamine fueled guitar, bass and drums, the Tossers play with a furious edge that teeters between rage and raucousness.
With over 15 years of the music grind behind them, the Tossers are a staple in the Celtic Punk and Folk scenes. Currently the band has five full length albums, the newest of which is "Agony" their second release on Victory Records.
While their live shows are fueled with a little bit of blood and sweat and a whole lot of whiskey and beer, their albums are dedicated to musical elegance and provocation. Possessing the ability to masterfully employ stark tempo changes from the brink of the insane to the solemness of an Irish ballad, the Tossers are an act that does not disappoint in print or in person.
Never afraid to take on new challenges at any venue for any audience the Tossers have had an eclectic past playing with acts such as the legendary Pogues, Spider Stacy (solo), the Popes, the Dropkick Murphy's, Stiff Little Fingers, Black 47 and Flogging Molly. In addition to this Irish menagerie they've also toured with hardcore favorites like Clutch and Murphy's Law; rockabilly icons Reverend Horton Heat and the Horror Pops; SKA classics like the Pie Tasters, Reel Big Fish and Catch 22; and moody rock n' rollers Murder By Death. The list goes on, as does the band.

Johnny Murder and the 25 to Life is a Psychobilly Trio straight from Chicago's Southside. Enthralled by early Psychobilly music the band tries to keep that sound alive today but adding our own aggressive touch. Each member has many different influences and this is expressed in our music, incorporating Jazz, early Country, and Surf into Psychobilly. Lyric content is explicit depicting everything from deranged stalkers to post apocalyptic underground dwellers. KATATONIAWebsiteListen
Katatonia formed in 1991 in Stockholm, Sweden and was brought together by long time friends, Anders Nystrm (aka Blakkheim) and Jonas Renkse (aka Lord Seth). After more than a year of rehearsals and composing, the first real fruits of their labour came to light in mid 1992 with the release of the demo 'Jhva Elohim Meth', recorded at Sweden's Gorysound Studio and produced by the multi-musician Dan Swan. The demo sold out immediately, bringing Katatonia to the attention of Dutch label Vic Records, who went on to re-release the demo as a mini CD, titled 'Jhva Elohim Meth – the Revival'. With the CD selling out fast and their reputation spreading like a wildfire through the underground, the duo knew they would need a fuller line-up to move the band up and forward. So, bassist Guillaume Le Huche (aka Israphel Wing) was enlisted to their ranks, enabling them to perform live in concert for the first time in their career.

NOVEMBERS DOOM
WebsiteListen
In 2006, Novembers Doom once again entered the studio to record the follow up to 2005's "The Pale Haunt Departure." The philosophy was simple... If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Sessions for "The Novella Reservoir" began with Chris Djuricic once again engineering and co-producing, also taking up the recording of the Bass guitar. Mixed by the highly respected Dan Swano, and mastered again by legendary James Murphy, "The Novella Reservoir" was completed, becoming the bands greatest audible onslaught yet. Taking their musical direction to the next logical step in their evolution, Novembers Doom has broken free from their past genre labels, to create a modern dark metal CD influenced heavily by their Chicago 90's death metal roots. "The Novella Reservoir" is easily the bands most aggressive CD to date, and will, without a doubt concrete them as one of the top bands of their genre.

Muddy and visceral...sounds like how the undead disinterring themselves from unconsecrated earth should sound.A fairly new local metal quintet, Witchbanger borders on supergroup status, at least for people to whom the names Wickerman, Buried at Sea, and Unfortunaut mean anything (and you should be one of those people). The demo they recorded in June burbles and roars with something approximating giddy joy, as if they're just about to pull the silly pained-looking guitar-face masks off all the ax-wielding metalheads in the world and admit that everyone playing stoner doom is having the time of his fucking life!

rock roar.

Rufio is a melodic punk rock band from Rancho Cucamonga, California. All the members of the band went to the same high school together. The band was formed when original bassist Jon Berry was in freshman year in college and the other three band members were in the final year of high school. The other three band members are Scott Sellers (Vocals/Guitar), Mike Jimenez (Drums), and Clark Domae (Guitar). Guitar players Scott and Clark were acquaintances at young ages as they grew up together. Scott then met lead bassist Jon Berry, and they began playing together immediately in various groups and sessions, as well as purchasing a 4-track to record the songs they have written together. After Berry and Scott began recording music, they asked Mike to play drums for them and listen to their recordings. Shortly after the addition of Mike, Clark joined and the band was formed. The band got their name from the character Rufio, leader of the Lost Boys from the Peter Pan-inspired film Hook.

FIFTH WORLD
Website
Fifth World came together in the summer of 2007. The band much like the concept of it's name is moving towards a new age of music, where vintage instruments are interwoven with electronic instruments, computers, midi triggers, and sequencing. The over all sound is a musical blend of everything learned from past genres of sound mixed with new concepts, tones and textures. With lyrics posed in existentialism, and rhythms steeped in dance, and soul. The music is being made to create excitement, movement and to spark a deeper thought regarding our purpose here in this plane of reality. The band is really trying to jump start the evolution of a global consciousness through the use of vibrations, sacred geometry, ancient knowledge, psychedelic shamanistic experience and thought provoking lyrics. Fifth World has already shared the stage with Boombox, JFJO, the Werks, Steez, Chris Berry & Panjea, Chicago Afro Beat Project, Elf Lettuce, 1000 Vertical Ft.,the Soup, Strange Arrangement, Frank Catalano,Wook, the Good Evening, Taggart Transcontinental, the New Fuse and many others.

In the end, LEE mean nothing less than to take their listeners on a journey through what was, what may be, and most certainly what is right now..connecting with their audience in the moment: inducing foot stomps, hand claps, and occasional howling at the moon in celebration of the self during each captivating live performance.
STREET DOGSWebsiteListen
The overall sound grabs the listener immediately, hearkening back to big sound of early Clash and Stiff Little Fingers records. There is an urgency to the sounds coming from the speakers that rarely finds its way out of a punk record anymore. The hooks are huge and the disc never loses its sense of melody. Even when razor sharp guitars cut straight through the song, the bass and drums keep everything tight and the whole record keeps your feet tapping and your fist pumping. If this record were to play in your local pub, the Guinness would taste that much better as you raised your pint skyward.

L.A. GUNSWebsite
L.A. Guns started in 1982 as a straightup dirty ass rock n roll band. The band was put together by Tracii Guns in his last year of high school.
The band has had some noteable members such as Axl Rose, Phillip Lewis and Marty Casey, but continues today with band members Jizzy Pearl (the Singer) Jeremy Guns (the Bass Player) Chad Stewart (the Drummer), and of course Tracii Guns (the Guitarist).
L.A. Guns has been a work in progress without an end in sight, continually touring and of course writing and recording a huge variety of rock n roll sounds. Some people believe that L.A. GUNS may be the last true rock n roll band that hasn’t had to rely on outside writers or the help or corporate funding to have continued success.

NOMEANSNOWebsiteListen
Nomeansno began as a two piece, drums and bass band nearly 25 years ago. Since then, little has changed, so we see the next 25 years continuing to be much the same. Thus, for the forseeable future, we will remain a brilliant, shining star in a cesspool of excrement. Perhaps that is overstating it a little bit but as we look back we can't help but feel...obscure. A dark shadow on a dark wall in a dark room creeping past the blind begging for nickels in a city of gold comes to mind.
FORD PIER
Website
Having cut his teeth playing a variety of intruments in a host of bands in a panoply of styles throughout his youth, Ford Pier set his hand in earnest to writing and performing his own songs in the mid-1990's. His stated objective was to effectively fuse Black Flag and Richard Wagner in a pop song, but kept on thwarting his own design with a melodicism he was powerless to escape, and a deft lyricism which drew attention to itself. In a good way.

BONDED BY BLOOD
Website
Rising out of Pomona, in the Los Angeles, Ca. outer suburbs, Bonded by Blood have rapidly emerged as one of the youngest (average age just 18) and arguably one of most proficient of the New Thrash wave of acts pouring out of that city in recent times. Formed in the summer of 2005 by a 17 year old hardcore-punk-thrash driven vocalist (Aladdin), he soon teamed up with like-minded young guitar shredders (Alex Lee and Juan Juarez), then found a drummer influenced by more classic metal (Carlos Cervesa), and finally added a bassist who was more than a little "out there " (RuDo) to round out the line-up. Although partly influenced by different styles of music, they all met through a love of one genre: THRASH METAL.

CATTLE DECAPITATIONWebsiteListen
Over the course of its existence, the San Diego-based Cattle Decapitation has ransformed from a stripped-down gore-grind side project of the arty hardcore/grindcore band the Locust to a full-fledged death metal band of their own, undergoing a confusing maze of lineup changes in the process. Their association with the Locust formed much of the original basis for their popularity in hardcore circles, which was unusual for a band that growled out the type of disturbing, gore-oriented lyrics usually reserved for Carcass/Cannibal Corpse audiences. However, as the years went by and their connections to the Locust finally severed personnel-wise, it became clear that they were indeed a real band of their own, not a side project; they eventually signed to established metal powerhouse label Metal Blade Records and, musically, took on more of a professional death metal sound while retaining their original pro-vegetarian/gore-oriented lyrical stance.

KNIGHTS OF THE ABYSS
Website
If, in the last five years, you've somehow managed to miss out on Glendale, Arizona's Knights of the Abyss, it's time to change that. Since 2005, the death metal outfit has toured with the likes of The Acacia Strain, Annotations Of An Autopsy, and Arsonists Get All The Girls and they've released two explosive albums through Candlelight/S.O.A.R. and Ferret Music respectively, 2007's 'Juggernaut' and 2008's 'Shades.' On August 17, Knights of the Abyss will unleash their third opus, 'The Culling of Wolves,' an album that's going to change a lot of preconceived notions about Knights. Those familiar with Knights of the Abyss may not recognize the band on 'The Culling of Wolves,' but then again, they may not recognize any of the band members' names. Aside from founding guitarist and main Knights song scribe Nick Florence, Knights is rounded out by an entire new cast of characters. Vocalist Harley Magnum joined the band this year, while guitarist Brian McNulty, drummer Ben Harclerode, and bassist Griffin Kolinski entered the fold in 2009. The result is a more mature, more focused, more metal Knights: This is a death metal band, not a deathcore group, as they've been so unfairly labeled. 'The Culling of Wolves' sounds like a cross between Black Dahlia Murder, All Shall Perish, and Behemoth and it's a devastatingly vicious blitz on the senses, inspired by the melodic death metal greats of Gothenburg.
BURNING THE MASSES
Website
Burning The Masses is a technical death metal band formed in 2006 out of San Diego, California. Burning the Masses has recently finished recording their second full length album, Offspring of Time in early 2010. The album is set for a release date of July 20th, 2010. This new album has a much more death metal-based sound prior to their earlier full length album, Mind Control, which had a deathcore influence.
SON OF AURELIUS
Website
In 2009 local Santa Cruz musicians came together for a 3 song recording project that included vocalist Josh Miller, guitarist Cary Geare, and a rhythm section made up of drummer Spencer Edwards and Berklee trained bassist Max Zigman. The recording took place at producer Zack Ohren's Castle Ultimate Studios. Zack previously produced albums for All Shall Perish, Suffocation, and Decrepit Birth. To a man, the band was floored by the depth and ferocity of the music they created. Their ability to blend technical progression, brutal death, and accents of melody compelled them to turn their studio session into a full time mission.
I:SCINTILLAWebsite
Chicago's I:Scintilla (pronounced eye-sin-til-uh) have jumped from recording demo songs in a bedroom to collaborating with some of modern music's best artists and releasing music on an international level. Fronted by Brittany Bindrim (vocals/words) and backed by Jim Cookas (guitar/programming), Vincent Grech (drums), and Brent Leitner (guitar/programming), the group seamlessly fuses electronic and rock elements while pushing the boundaries of pop music. Bindrim's intensely seductive voice and insightful words paint a dark picture of loss, redemption, and introspection and are delivered via insatiably catchy hooks. The music drapes the mood with intricately layered synthesizers, grinding guitar riffs, and a mix of live and programmed drums. The quartet's unique sound has drawn comparisons to Garbage, Curve, and The Birthday Massacre.

VADER
Website
Different sources see the beginnings of VADER and interpret it in various ways. The truth is, however, that the band was set up in the autumn of 1983 by two people crucial for the band: Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek ("Bardast" and later "Behemoth" back then) playing the bass and the guitarist Zbyszek "Vika" Wroblewski. The band started its activity in Poland, the country that was stuck in a completely different reality. Metal was associated only with the two officially existing bands: TSA and Kat… Extreme metal was just about to be born and VADER was among the pioneers of that genre (and the only one left since then) in the newly emerging Underground…
ABIGAIL WILLIAMS
Website
The band was formed in 2005 by guitarist Ken Bergeron, who later became the vocalist. Prior to forming Abigail Williams and taking on the name Sorceron, Bergeron was the guitarist of Victims in Ecstacy, followed by participation in various hardcore and metal acts in Arizona. The band's sound backed away from it's metalcore roots, which was famously described as "black metalcore" by a UK magazine, with the release of their debut album "In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns, and began to take inspiration from the melodic metal scene found in the Nordic countries.
LECHEROUS NOCTURNE
Website
Since their debut in 1997, Lecherous Nocturne have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the Southeastern metal scene, landing a deal with Deepsend Records on the strength of their self-titled EP and their desire to expand the already-extreme boundaries of thrash, black, and death metal. Powered by the dense, interlocking riffs of guitarists Kreishloff and Chris Lollis and featuring frontman Jason Hohensteins wide range of throat-shredding vocal effects, Lecherous Nocturne strips their metal right down to the bloody bones.
PATHOLOGY
Website
PATHOLOGY is no stranger to the current burgeoning underground American Death Metal movement. Their gore-soaked music and imagery has gained serious notoriety since drummer Dave Astor (founding member and original drummer for grind-spazz project THE LOCUST and militant death squad CATTLE DECAPITATION) founded the group in 2006 amidst the hot confines of San Diego, CA. PATHOLOGY combines the bowel-shaking vocals of classic American Death Metal of SUFFOCATION and MORTICIAN, mixed with the technical prowess of gore grind gods CARCASS and mosh-inducing stomp of DYING FETUS and SKINLESS.
NEVERMOREWebsite
In the heavy metal community many writers toss around the monikers "legend" and "genre defying" to describe many bands, but these terms have never been more accurate if they are referring to NEVERMORE, who have perfectly carved out their own unique niche over the past 15 years of dominance. This group's sound encompasses every element of the metal spectrum and is like no other band within their genre. They have played everywhere across the world to over hundreds of thousands of people and after all this time they have never been more determined, focused and powerful than they are now.

Breaking though the mainstream metal underground at a time when the term 'Thrash Revival' was being coined, WARBRINGER struggled and fought to distance themselves from the flock and the rest of their peers with an extremely aggressive energetic live performance and a determination to drive the old-school sound forward into the next decade with a sense of fresh air and originality.
MUTINY WITHIN
Website
Mutiny Within is the typical story of a bunch of kids who stayed home and practiced the shit out of their instruments til their fingers bled. When the Jacobs brothers, bassist AJ, guitarist Brandon; and keyboardist Drew Stavola started playing together under the name Mutiny in 2002, it probably wasn't to get girls at all -- it was to emulate their first musical heroes and influences: prog-metallers like Symphony X and Dream Theater as well as Euro-shredders including Soilwork and Children of Bodom.

Website
"Doug Stanhope is a gritty comic that mixes atrociously profane gutter humor with acerbic social commentary that would likely get him killed if he weren't so damned funny. If there any one thing about Stanhope that's telling of his talent, it's that his material bears repeated listening. Unlike so many of his contemporaries and influences, you can listen to the same Stanhope CD over and over and always get something new out of it."

CEALED KASKET
CEALED KASKETWebsite
Cealed Kasket's live show is a frenetic medieval horror opera set in the dark ages, a presentation of barbaric hedonistic rock and roll so powerful it would reduce Alice Cooper to prison rape bait. The Onion called it " Over-the-top mock-metal played with enough death-rock affectation to make Marilyn Manson look like the master of subtlety." Equal parts comedy and tragedy, their rabid fan base comes not only for the music but for the theatrical experience-to be a warrior, to be a part of the battle, to join their heroes onstage with swords raised and blood boiling. Drinking contests, shouting matches, special effects, knights, wenches and backstage sluttin maximize audience participation.
MAD SINWebsite
They have long-since reached beyond the baying Psychobilly masses that love them dearly, but they have never abandoned them or the genre, but they have enriched and elaborated on Psychobilly while absorbing a multitude of influences from the past while forging ahead with the present. The sound is as deep as it is raging and tumultuous with each player knowing when to come to the fore and hit you with their particular forte, double bass is there in abundance but not so prominent that you are not shocked when it is the only sound left in the layer, just long enough to stun you in time for the guitar to slice through your ears as a follow-up. While most of the songs are performed at Mad Sin's trademark mach 1 speed there are one or two surprise drops in tempo but don't get too complacent. Koefte's unmistakable voice bounces about on the music in way which belies its depth while the band are not slow in coming forward with screams and shouts of encouragement boomeranging in and out the of the mix.

File under: Punk Circus Marching Band
Or: Nerd-Core (Nerd Corps?)
See slide trombones, marching drums, accordions and other romantic icons wielded by musicians with the purpose of making music, instigating spontaneous dancing, loss of bladder control, and horn honking. You may find it sexy if you like uniforms or anything dork-ass.
WATAINWebsite
Watain performs Black Metal in it's original form; dangerous, passionate, sinister and magical. Drenched in blood, swept in mystery, shunning no sacrifice. You have been warned.
GOATWHORE
WebsiteListen
In an oversaturated metal landscape where sub-genres spawn sub-sub-genres and the very definition of "metal" seems blurred by cross-pollinating madness, sacred are the bands who stay true to their roots. Goatwhore spew the sort of sinister, fist-clenching, speaker-searing sound that made metal so forbiddingly enticing in the first place
BLACK ANVIL
Website
NYC's BLACK ANVIL let loose 'Triumvirate', the follow-up to 2009's acclaimed 'Time Insults the Mind', on the unsuspecting world. 'Triumvirate's assault is powerful, primal, and pure; capturing and channeling the spirit of metal's earliest trailblazers through a 21st century urban hostility. Insidious tracks such as "The Evil of All Roots", "Scalping", and "Dead and Left" are as cold and hard as they are hypnotic. 'Triumvirate' unquestionably leaves BLACK ANVIL's enduring, pitch-black mark on the metal world.
NILEWebsite
It's been said that one of humanity's greatest attributes is our desire to remember. In light of the ancient world's epic tales of invasion, occupation, conquest, enslavement, domination, and all-out war, situating history against the equally violent passages of death metal music in such a thorough and reverent way had yet to be achieved until the birth of NILE.
EX DEO
Website
Ex Deo was formed in 2008 as an artistic project Maurizio Iacono was really interested in and as it caught on, it became more of a band. However, Iacono said in an interview that Ex Deo will not be as active as Kataklysm is. "Ex Deo is more of a prestigious type of band. We're not going to tour intensively for it, we're not going do as much as we do for Kataklysm. Kataklysm is a world-warrior band, you know. It's on the road constantly and more in touch with social aspects. This (Ex Deo) is more something artistic, you know."-frontman Maurizio Iacono

KEEP OF KALESSIN
Website
Keep Of Kalessin was formed in 1995 and has throughout the years only released 4 studio albums and 1 EP due to personal disputes and a very bumpy road for founder and songwriter Obsidian C. But with the release of "Armada" in 2006 the band took the much deserved step into the ranks of the top metal bands from Norway. With top reviews in all metal media worldwide, nominations in Spellemannsprisen and Alarm awards, 4 european tours and many festivals only in the last two years, the band has built a good reputation for their unique epic extreme metal in the metal community around the globe.
PATHOLOGY

THE METHADONESWebsite
Incorporating catchy power pop with guitar-fueled, hook-laden punk rock, the Chicago quartet The Methadones prove to be much more than the scads of young pseudo-angry bands that have cashed in on the pop-punk formula of Green Day in the early '90s. The Methadones, led by guitarist / vocalist Dan Schafer (aka Dan Vapid from Screeching Weasels), along with lead guitarist Mike Byrne (The Vindictives), bassist Pete Mittler and drummer Mike Soucy, snatch their sweet, sticky brand of pop-punk from the hands of babes, only to repackage it all into short, searing treats for those a little more mature, but who still know a good time when it clobbers them over the head. The band's knack for injecting their infectious melodies with an unbridled sense of rebellious enthusiasm only solidifies that these guys are serious about their craft.
SOVIETTES
WebsiteListen
There's a fine line involved in the Soviettes' widely accessible brand of punk rock and those closely related; a line with two distinct production extremes lying on its respective sides. On one end you've got unashamed, unyielding, guitar-scrubbing, dirty-as-fuck, direct-from-the-basement work; on the other end you've got squeaky clean, polished to an unavoidable shimmer, radio-ready products of studio magic; the kind of thing that requires a special formula for the sake of easy and constant replication. But then in the middle, directly on that very thin line, you've got the perfect combination of both; not quite the poor band's "produced," not quite a big budget "gritty." It's a quality rarely achieved, and one capable of drawing respect from any point across the punk rock spectrum. It's genuine and adroit, it's straightforward and confounding - punk with an indiscriminant charm; pop with a scathing demeanor. It's exactly what you get with the Soviettes.

INCANTATIONWebsiteListen
One of the most important bands ever to emerge in the death metal genre, Incantation has braved two decades through many lineup changes, tours around the world, and an extensive discography. The death metal institution has returned with its latest release, Primordial Domination, to once again prove that Incantation is often imitated but never equaled.
FUNERUS
Website
Over the course of a couple years, and still working on achieving the most brutal sound, FUNERUS released two rehearsal demos, still without a bass player. At the time, finding people into totally brutal death metal was not an easy task. Luckily, though, Jason and Brad stumbled upon the idea of asking a friend of theirs if she would like to play with them. When the two found out their acquaintance, Jill Daily, played guitar a little bit, and was already into similar music, they asked the big question: "Will you play bass for us?" And, without a doubt, the sewage slinging tractor-bass was a welcome addition to their already low-end heavy sound.
FATALIST
Website
The band was originally thought of as an all Swedish death metal cover band called Stockholm Syndrome. After it was known that some of the members were not going to actually commit to doing it, the band was put on hold for a while. In the spring of 2006, Wes Caley (Uphill Battle, Exhumed) decided that he would like to make a version of the band that did original songs instead of cover songs but in the same style as Entombed, Nihilist, Grave, Dismember, and Unleashed. He contacted Neil Burkdoll (Dirty Dead, Stump) after hearing his POOR project that he did that was similar to what Wes had in mind for his Swedish style band. Just as Wes made contact with Neil, he found out that Neil was actually moving out to California in the near future. They decided it was time to get together create FATALIST. Eventually Fatalist enlisted Tyler Castro and Art Hayes (ex-Butchery) to complete the line-up on drums and bass. In late summer of 2007, the band recorded a 7 song demo cd called "Loss" and started looking for shows to play in California.
SCAR SYMMETRYWebsiteListen

BLACKGUARD
Website
If ever there was a test case proving that hard work, tenacity, a healthy amount suffering, and word of mouth pays off, Blackguard is it. Formed in 2001 by guitarist Terry Roadcase and drummer Justine "Juice" thier as a straight ahead black metal outfit, the Montreal-based sextet - who clawed their way into the public eye under the name Profugus Mortis - has fought a pitched battle to stand out amongst their international metal brethren, going through numerous line-up changes and much needed sonic tweaking to get to where they are in 2010.
FORBIDDENWebsite
Through-out the 1980's the thrash metal scene was bursting with talent and among the rhythmic collection a band that refused to be labeled in with the so called bay area sound. They were much more than just the next thrash band, they used odd signitures and melodies to create an original style all their won. Formed in March of 1985 in Hayward California Forbidden Evil forged an original style of metal that earned them praise by critics and bands alike.Throughout the years Forbidden has had many great players contributing to the music. In 2008 we came together for the first time in 12 years for a short re-union tour that included Russ Anderson on vocals, Craig Locicero and Glen Alvalais on guitar, Matt Camacho on bass, Mark Hernandez and the Great Gene Hoglan on drums. Even Paul Bostaph sat in for three shows. Of course we will never forget all of the amazing work that Tim Calvert and Steve Jacobs brought to the table even though they could not be a part of this re-union. Everyone was equally invaluable through out the History of Forbidden, though the core of the band on every record has always been Russ, Matt and Craig.

We are a punk/metal crossover band with our Roots set in Hardcore. Established way back in 1982 and now have been together for over 23 years. We have about 10 CD's & 2 DVD's out on various labels and are considered to be one of the forefathers of speed metal and thrash punk music. We started out in Texas and moved to the Bay Area cause we heard the SF area had free food at the soup kitchens (from which the classic tune was written!!!!!) We are that band with the skanker in the circle. You know, the running man. The mosher. The one thats on your parents old t-shirts. We apeared on a Beavis & Butthead episode. We also held the Guiness Book record for fastest band in the world, back in the day. We played with just about every major band you can name, and most festivals in our travels around the world for over two deacdes. We now have over 120 DRI songs under our belt, and still play about 35 or so when we play a live.

Folk Metal Band that hails from Finland. That's right. Folk Metal. "The last leaves have fallen in the old world of Europe. Trees are stripped to wooden skeletons, Winter is at its coldest. LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH
Website
The legal last name to Autarch, vocalist for Lightning Swords of Death, is Loathing. If that doesn't prove that the group consists of some evil dudes, then just wait until you see the menaces live. Need a better picture? Imagine if Watain was from Los Angeles, left behind the maggots and had some doomier parts. In other words, Lightning Swords of Death don't dress in theatrical costume. Just leather and bullet belts. And their sound is as fierce as their attitude.
